Two waves of missile and drone strikes attributed to the Russian have hit the Ukrainian regions of Zaporozhye and Kharkiv, causing heavy losses.

On April 5 afternoon, the first wave of strikes hit Zaporozhye. Video footage posted to social media showed large blasts at a small industrial area where the plants of Motor Sich and Ivchenko-Progress, which produces engines for all sorts of aircraft, are located.

Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the We Are Together with Russia movement, later confirmed that at least the Motor Sich plant was hit.

“According to preliminary information, the explosions in the city of Zaporozhye, which is temporarily occupied by the Nazis, were caused by the impact of two Iskander missiles. At the very least, the industrial site of the Motor Sich enterprise has been hit,” Rogov wrote on his Telegram channel.

Other Russian sources and Ukrainian media said that the strikes on Zaporozhye were carried out using Iskander-K ground-launched cruise missiles.

The second wave of strikes hit Kharkiv early on April 6. Videos that surfaced online showed a large fire and secondary explosion near the city after the attack, indicating that an ammunition depot was struck.

Later, Russian sources alleged that the strikes destroyed a large warehouse where Kiev forces stored ammunition for Czech-made RM-70 Vampir multiple rocket launchers. Ukrainian media said that the attack resulted in a number of casualties.

Kiev forces said that the attack was carried out using Kh-101/555 air-launched cruise missiles and Geran-1/2 suicide drones. As usual, it falsely claimed that most of the projectiles were intercepted.

The strikes on Zaporozhye and Kharkiv were likely carried out by the Russian military in response to a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack that targeted five regions in Russia early on April 5.

The nature of the targets hit in both regions indicate that the aim of the strikes was to degrade Ukraine’s ability to attack Russian territory. Motor Sich produces engines for drones and cruise missiles sometimes used in such attacks, and RM-70 rockets are regularly fired across the border.
