Vienna briefing regarding Syrian conflict

The member countries of the coalition fighting ISIS in Syria, altogether with the United Nations have concluded that a ceasefire must be implemented nationwide in a date still to be confirmed supported on the background of a renewed political ground if parliamentary and presidential elections finally take place.

Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the ceasefire wouldn’t be able to be applied to the militants of the Islamic State.

It was also decided in the briefing that an encounter of the Syrian Government and the opposition is needed to have a credible and lawful political settlement process that would be supervised by the UN.

Still some of the members of the coalition, like the US, expressed their disapproval to Russia’s support to President Assad.

Lavrov added that every effort of ISIS to regain Syrian territory must be frustrated, thus it was agreed that the countries participating in Vienna talks would commit to fight all terrorist groups qualified as such by the UNSC (United Nations Security Council) and other extremist organization not yet listed by the International organism.

A ceasefire should only be implemented on the condition that no war materials and no mercenaries for the terrorists are allowed to enter Syria during the ceasefire.
