Pompeo: U.S. Seeks To Ensure “Turks Don’t Slaughter Kurds” In Syria

The U.S. Secretary of State said that Washington will talk with Ankara to make sure it will not “slaughter” Kurds in Syria after the upcoming withdrawal of American troops from the war-torn country.

“The importance of ensuring that the Turks don’t slaughter the Kurds, the protection of religious minorities there in Syria. All of those things are still part of the American mission set,” Mike Pompeo said during an interview with Newsmax, a U.S. news and opinion site popular with conservatives, on January 3.

President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. forces from Syria led to a backlash from the media and many politicians. One of the main sources of criticism was the timing of the surprise decision, which came ahead of a planned Turkish military operation against Washington’s proxies in northeastern Syria, where the vast of majority of Syria’s Kurds live.

Pompeo’s defended Trump’s decision and stressed that the withdrawal will go ahead. However, he didn’t give a more precise timeline so as not to tip off U.S. adversaries. Recent reports claim that the currently timeline for the withdraw will be four months.

Despite acknowledging that the U.S. had “real concerns” with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Secretary of State stressed that Washington and Ankara have to work together on many issues.

“There are lots of places where we need to work with President Erdogan and the Turkish leadership to get good outcomes for the United States,” the National quoted Pompeo as saying.

It’s unclear yet how the U.S. will be able to ensure the safety of Syrian Kurds after the withdrawal of its forces. One of the ideas that are being mentioned now is the deployment of Arab forces from countries friendly to Damascus, such as the UAE and Egypt. However, this is yet to be confirmed.

Looks like they try to find a new reason to stay after the imminent end of !S!S

Zionism = EVIL

Indeed, there is no withdrawal, it is all usual Americunt double speak and treachery. As long as the Zionist cancer survives in Palestine, the Americunts and their NATO poodles will keep on destabilizing the region. OIL is the big prize too. Only high casualties will kick them out of the region.

Jens Holm

You double not listen. Trump said 30-60 days and You reacted as if it was tomorrow.

After that he has said as soon as possible.

Good if Your problem only is , You are sitting on Your ears. They You just can move.

The rest is funny too. If You learned from jews and west, You had a chance for positive chances for improvemenets. As long as You deny and insist, Your wishes only are jokes.

550.000 dead – zionists and americans ??? Who killed most of them – Americans, Westerns, Yourself.

How can people like You ever make high casualties apart at Your own.

Lena Jones

The only things to learn from jews is how to mass murder unarmed civilians, how to start wars in gentildom, and how to fleece gentile tax payers.

Let’s clarify. Only High US/ NATO casualties will cause them to leave Syria. Israel doesn’t care about American soldiers dying. No matter the cost in US lives and recourses, Israel will still pressure Trump to stay in Syria. Israel will endanger civilian lives, as in the cases where they use passenger airliners to shield their illegal air attacks on Syria. Israel has killed scores of Americans in false flag attacks just to get America to do it’s bidding. Check out Operation Susannah and The USS Liberty. No hesitation. co altruism, just a n insane, mad desire to have the whole world bleed so that Israel may rise. And they have a nuclear arsenal OMG. What a vile state Israel can be. Sorry, this was meant to be a reply but the truth must be known> For those who don’t know, do research on the actions of this apartheid nation, past and present, You won’t find this in the M S M for it is mainly controlled by these Zionist. Zionism is racism!

Pompeo doesn’t want to see another Mi Lai, or Wounded Knee type massacre.

The Yanks have to be number one in the world for something.

Pave Way IV

Correction: Pompeo would LOVE to see another Song My or Wounded Knee. He’s probably fapping at the thought of all the fresh organ harvesting potential right now.

Pompeo and his psychopathic neocon cabal just don’t want the rest of the world to see another U.S. military-led massacre like Song My or Wounded Knee.

Zionism = EVIL

The fat pig Pompeo is stating the obvious, the Americunt backstabbers are arming the Kurd turds to the maximum to create a major conflict with Turkey and weaken both. Just yesterday over 200 trucks with ATGM, MRAPs, artillery and mines were send to the YPG and FSA terrorists. US and Zionist agenda is now to destabilize Turkey and start another major conflict. If the treacherous Erdogan has any brain left, he should work with Syria, Iran and Russia in eliminating the Americunt terrorists and start stabilizing Syria. In 2012, there was not a single armed Kurd in Syria, today the YGP terrorists and FSA have over 20,000 armed terrorists operating under Americunt, Limeys and Froggy umbrella. The Turks should have bombed the Americunt supply line to terrorists that most bizarrely comes out of Incirik. Turkey has major problems coming its way.

Smith Ricky

Let them kill each other. Much easier to advance and regain lost syrian territory.

Zionism = EVIL

Indeed, but the problem is that the Turkeys army is third rate and has not made a dent in any Kurdish armed group in 60 years now. Infact, Turkey has lost over 1,000 dead in Syria so far. Every day there is a funeral for an Anatolian peasant conscript and the media is banned from showing the growing number of funerals. Now with major Americunt arms delivery to the FSA and YPG, the Turkeys will be hit at home too.

Jens Holm

Here are more of Americunt friends in Ukraine now, which is turning into eastern Europe’s terror central.

Islamist Chechen fighters who honed their combat skills at Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) training camps are at war against Ukrainian rebels, confirms the Times. Tumbleweed. The report in British newspaper the Times, that Chechen Islamists, many reeling from defeat in Syria and Iraq amongst the alphabet soup of fanaticism, had indeed arrived at the war front in eastern Ukraine, woke me up from any Christmas torpor.

An earlier report in the New York Times had revealed that the Islamist Chechens were under the command of the fascist “Right Sector” and were there to “fight Russians” because “we like fighting Russians” and “will never stop fighting Russians as long as we have US support”

Willing Conscience (The Truths

“It’s unclear yet how the U.S. will be able to ensure the safety of Syrian Kurds after the withdrawal of its forces”. A Russian no fly zone, Imbedded Russian/SAA troops, continued US support and arms supplies for the Kurds [even if they join the SAA in some form or another], and ‘CONTINUED’ cooperation with Putin and Assad, that’s how. But that will just make the Kurds safe for a while, to make the Kurds and the whole region a lot safer for a lot longer, they have to get rid of Erdogan permanently, and to permanently get rid of Erdogan, they have to first let him get a foot in the door, that way they can ‘ALL’ slam the door shut while his foots still trapped in the way. Putin and Trump are working together and manipulating Erdogan into something, that’s what I think is happening.

verner

it’s just talk and talk and his mind is not on the kurdish issue, but the dumb-nuts keep hoping they are wrong and that the moronic states will send the cavalry to their rescue – and how wrong they are!

Willing Conscience (The Truths

You’re assuming Trump has no further useful purpose for the Kurds, but if he didn’t have, he would have just dumped them 6 months ago, and not just recently given them even more weapons and equipment, TWICE. Trump also wouldn’t have allowed the Russians and the SAA to imbed their troops with his own in Manbij if he wasn’t concerned about the fate of the Kurds, I hope you don’t think that made Erdogan happy in any way. And Trump wouldn’t have built all those shiny new OB posts and radar stations for the French if he was just going to desert the Kurds, so that was just to benefit the Kurds, no one else. Trumps been telling the Kurds and everyone else since January he was going to pull out of Syria to help end the war here, he’s been saying he’s more than happy to cooperate with Putin in settling the dispute, he’s even been saying Assad can now stay in power, and even better, convinced the Israelis to go along with it too, WHAT MORE COULD THE MAN SAY OR DO TO CONVINCE ANYONE. The Kurds ignored him until just recently and tried their hardest to persuade him to stay, but they should have just listened to him in the first place, so should everyone else. I seem to be the only person who’s not confused as to what’s going on, because I’ve been taking Trump at his word, and not listening to all the lies other people tell supposedly on his behalf. Besides, actions speak louder than words, I didn’t even need to read a single article Trump released to know exactly what he was planning, his actions over the last 12 months concerning the Kurds have spoken much louder than any spoken or written words he might have issued to the press, everyone should have known all this was about to happen, it was all made so obvious without even reading Trumps statements declaring his intentions on Syria and the Kurds.

You can call me Al

What a strange comment. In Iraq, the Kurds were paid whores to the US to raise up against Sadam and then as usual, the US just left them with all the shit to handle themselves.

Regards your last sentence, you could of course be right, but that is not what I think.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

If I remember history correctly, the Kurds and the Shia population of Iraq had began uprisings against Saddam even before he lost support from the US, decades before. Yes the US did desert the Kurds and Shia populations, but the US no fly zone balanced out the ledger enough to allow the Kurds at least to gain FULL SELF AUTONOMY in the end. My comment isn’t strange at all, I’m actually quite observant. You’re assuming the US administration Trump now leads, is exactly the same as every other administration that’s come before it, that’s an incorrect observation. You’re wrongly assuming the US will just do the same thing it always has, instead of taking into account the new dynamic that’s operating in the US government. Everything Trump says he’s going to do he tries very hard to do, he doesn’t always succeed but he at least tries, and when he fails, it always because of opposition from within his own government, not the Democrats in opposition, but the members of his own government institutions. Don’t judge this US administration behaviours by any of the previous administrations behaviours, that would mean you didn’t observe the most important observation at all. My very simple observations of the past and current events are this, whatever Trump proposes to do he tries to do, even when members of his own administration are opposed to it, but in most cases Trump wins out eventually. Back in January he announced he wanted to finally pull out of Syria, he’d crunched the numbers and didn’t like them, it was time to pull out the troops. He informed the Kurds and sent them to Assad to renegotiate a mutually beneficial settlement [nearly 50 delegations sent], but none of them worked, the Kurds wouldn’t settle for anything less than complete self autonomy. The Kurds refused to negotiate a deal with Assad so Trump gave them a deadline, but instead of complying, the the Kurds then went on strike and stopped attacking Isis until April, that was the first of 2 Kurdish strikes [refusing to fight Isis for the US], even after Erdogan was ALLOWED to invade Afrin in March they still refused to fight Isis. They only began fighting Isis again because the Iraqis launched air attacks against Isis in Al Hasakah and threatened to follow up with a ground invasion. That’s what got the Kurds fighting again in April, the threat of a coordinated Iraqi/Syrian operation against Isis in the territory they were supposed to be looking after. After cleaning up all the rest of northern Syria [estimated 5000 Isis fighters] the Kurds left just one small pocket of Isis at Hajin [estimated 1500 Isis fighters], and they’ve been allowed to fester there for 8 months now, that’s what I’ve been calling the second Kurdish strike. But Trump outsmarted them, he began enlisting non Kurdish ethnic groups into the SDF back in January, and now has nearly 20,000 non Kurdish fighters, the strike breakers as I’ve been calling them, they’re the ones doing most of the fighting at Hajin now, not the Kurds. But they aren’t just strike breakers, Trump has another purpose for them as well, they’ll all be able to easily integrate with the SAA after the US pull out, leaving a credible multi ethnic representational force that not even Erdogan or any of the different ethnic groups in the region could complain about [but Erdogan will], they’ll make the transition from SDF to SAA much more easily than the Kurds ever could. As to the Kurds they still have a purpose, some may join the SAA, but most will be used in a different way. They’re the only force in Syria that can attack the Turks and get away with it, so they’re still a very important military force in their own right, that fact won’t be unimportant to Assad, Putin and Trump. If Erdogan decides to run amok, they’re still a ‘Trump card’ that can be played if they need to be, and there may yet be a need for them, they’re not indispensable as most people think they are, they’re actually still a very valuable asset. So I’d argue I’ve in fact been very observant and none of my comments are strange. I’ve been saying on SF since January until just recently, Trumps trying to force the Kurds into going back to Assad, Trump wants to get out of Syria and is in the process of doing it, The Kurds have been on 2 strikes trying to manipulate both Trump and Assad into a better deal on self autonomy, Trump was breaking the Kurds strike by recruiting non Kurds into the SDF as quickly as he could, Trump and Putin have both been cooperating behind the scenes to force both the Kurds and Assad into some sort of arrangement that suites both the US and Russian agendas, [the Kurds stuffed up and Assad won out], And I’ve been saying the French will take over all the US infrastructure after the US leave, bases, OB posts, radar installations ect, And also the US would leave the Kurds all the weapons and equipment they’ve given them, as well as possibly giving them more, and they already have, So far none of these previous statements have proven to be strange at all, just everybody else’s, my predictions and statements concerning Trump and the Kurds are all archived on the SF comments and I think I’ve been the most accurate commentator on SF by far, no one else has even come close to predicting anything at all that’s happened so far concerning the Kurds, except for me that is. There’s a few more things I think will happen but haven’t yet but I think they still will, for one a Syrian/Russian/French/US/Kurdish proxy war against Turkey that Turkey will lose, meaning the end for Erdogan politically, that hasn’t happened yet, BUT IT WILL. Sorry for the bible but you’re comment about my ‘strange comments’ needed a in depth response, I’m about the only person on SF not surprised by current events in Syria concerning the Kurds and the US, since I’ve been saying this would all happen since January in my SF posts, you must not read my posts but I have many concerning the subjects, and I’ve been saying the same thing on SF for nearly 12 months now, I think my comments and predictions have been the MOST accurate of anybody’s, and not strange at all, in fact I find it strange not many people ever seemed to agree with my predictions, and even stranger still why everyone still seems so confused still, it should be obvious to everybody what’s really going on by now, but it still isn’t. Maybe everyone’s gotten too used to thinking of the US as a country that says one thing but always means another, but that too is proving to be incorrect concerning Trump, if you look at what he’s actually said he wanted to do in Syria, it more or less matches up with what he has done, that’s possibly why everyone seems so confused.

You can call me Al

Thank you for the detailed response. I was wrong, apologies.

PS I do read you comments, always although I might not agree with them at the time as this war seems to be in a state of daily flux (more than others).

Willing Conscience (The Truths

No apology needed, and you’re very welcome. It is indeed in a state of flux, which is still better than being switched to negative all the time.

verner

kurds have been all over the place and put their trust in, yeah, de americans!! what a larf and how that is even possible in this time and day is beyond comprehension. but they will have to live with it and remain a people without a country along the borders of turkey (who hates them and would like to do a repeat of another genocide 100 years ago but is estopped from doing just that due to today’s newsmarkets), syria, iraq and iran. and pompous is just playing nice and soften the blow but his mind is now elsewhere!

Promitheas Apollonious

what part you missed, that kurds was the instruments of the turks, in the genocides turks have committed against armenians and greeks? The genocide they claim happen against them in iraq it was happen when they try to take advantage of what was happening in Iraq and attacked iraq from within not unlike what they do now in syria always betraying the country that give them hospitality.

When you eliminating scam of the earth as them by any means at your disposal it is not genocide is a cleaning operation.

verner

a bit muddled but I get the gist of what you’re saying, which is enough.

Promitheas Apollonious

only if you not aware of the history of the kurds, or your sources about them is wikipedia and I am talking with you not about you, so you dont miss what I say.

verner

kurds will at least not now have their own homeland since neither turkey, syria iraq nor iran is willing to grant them more independence than they have right now. understandable when you see how promiscuous they are, hopping into bed with the first dumbwit they meet and that offers them yeah nada. like the moronic states and they send a lying thieving representative like pompous who cares as much about kurds as he cares about the inhabitants in the fly over states at home, which is nada!

Barba_Papa

So basically the message to the Kurds is, ‘We’re off, you’re on your own now. Don’t worry, we’ll ask the Turks nicely to not slaughter you guys. So don’t worry, and please continue to be dicks against Assad in our absence. Don’t worry about those Turkish tanks massing in your back. They’re just massing to take out ISIS.’

Tommy Jensen

Assad only think of power to the elite Alawite tribe and to suppress and slaughter all other minorities especially women in Syria.

Turkey only think of slaughtering the democratic Kurds and making massacres on all women who requires equal gender rights and homo marriages.

We are in Syria because we have an obligation to protect vulnerable Syrian children and women against dictators…..for peace! This is America folks. Therefore we dont know how long it will takes. It depends PURELY on the dictators Putin, Assad and Erdogan!

For freedom!!

BMWA1

One of your better comic efforts.

Promitheas Apollonious

and you need to remember taking your medication and lithium especially as prescribed and not use it to get high.

Cedric Hunter

Americans cant stay in Syria for too much longer. Turks will almost certainly slaughter Kurds in retaliation for Kurdish attacks into Southern Turkey. One truck bomb in Ankara that can be traced back to Syrian Kurds and President Assad will team up with the Turks to isolate the SDF and suffocate it out of existence. The Americans will bow out stopping

a crushing of the Kurds.
