A temporary ceasefire agreement in the northern Hama countryside has been reached, Omar Rahmoun, a prominent pro-government figure, announced on June 12.
According to Rahmoun, who is a well-known mediator between the government and the opposition, the new ceasefire agreement will last for at least three days.
Pro-government activists said that the frontlines in northern Hama have been witnessing full calmness for more than 12 hours now. The Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) and the Russian Aerospace Forces also suspended their combat operations over Greater Idlib.
Last month, a similar temporary ceasefire agreement allowed Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies to launch a large-scale attack in northwestern Hama. The same scenario was repeated last week when the terrorist group took advantage of another ceasefire to launch a successful ground assault on the villages of Jibeen and Tell Meleh.
These repeated violations raise serious questions about the motivations behind these ceasefire agreements, which appear to be nothing but second chances for HTS and its allies.

All that ceasefires do is give the terrorists time to regroup and entrench. The government’s only option is to push now before three million jihadis flood down from Turkey. The ceasefire is to get civilians out of the way. 3 million terrorists aren’t going to invade from Turkey. And ceasefires and descalation agreements have been used contentiously as the Syrian government has gone from controlling 10% of it’s land to 60% soon to be 70%.
I hope you are right and I am wrong, but I am very pessimistic, Syria will be split and with all the oil field and most arable lands in kurdish/rebel hands it has no chance to recover, I think it is better that the Russian paint targets on their base telling the jihadists please hit here

It has been for many many decades and Assads systematicly has done that by excluding people as well as reforms 2) Oil and gas cant be exported out from the SDF area for free. How comes????? 3) its not true most arable land is in the SDF zone. Even if it was, because its true they do grow things well in the non abandonned dry land, the SDFs has to buy a lot of very needed stuff as well.
Furthermore its for oil, gas and agriculture a must to reform those ineffective sectors. On maps we are told old oilfields are empty. Thats not true. They are empty because there is not invested in modern western methods which often can give 3-5 times more oil even its a little more expensive pr barrel.
The same goes for farming. Syria is farming as in ancient times also wasting water to the sky for nothing. Its well known its much better havin 10 hektars giving 40 times back, but Syria mainly has 40 hektars in small lots giving only 10 times back.
I allow me to add Turks seemes to take more water from Eufrat and Tigres as well as they will get less rain.

Well, the government may, indeed, be too weak to recapture Idlib, but the fact remains that there is simply no diplomatic solution to the problem. Whether it takes months or decades, this war will be won in the traditional manner. Bloodshed cannot and shall not be avoided.

Agree with you 100%, Syria was the only no former USSR country that allowed Russia to have a military base, it should have been protected since the beginning of the civil war. If I were a leader of a country I would rather allow the yankees to open a military base than the Russians. Sad to say, but this is the truth.

The SAA got decimated in their offensive.They lost over 300 people,over 10 tanks,armored vehicles,technicals and even airplanes.Billions in dollars worth missles and granades.Yesterday they showed reinforcements with T54 tanks taken out of storage!? Numerious failed attacks.Two generalls and nummerious officers.Total disaster and failure.

The problem is that incompetent SAA staff thought that with RUAF on air and Tiger Forces on ground were enough to defeat terrorist in N Hama and Idlib….well even a kid knows that SAA are not a reliable force to combat well armed, fanatic and trained terrorist…Tiger Forces( as offensive forces) can take and retake village…but later SAA/NDF conscripts flee from there when HTS are coming…and left weapons!…we have seen it along the Syrian war!..only Russian Speznats, Hezbollah and Shia militia deployed on ground have ability to confront terrorist and keep retaken territories as we have seen also in Iraq where Iraqi army was unable to defeat ISIS without the help of Iraqi shia PMU…the problem is that Shia forces are needed to keep safe the Iraq border from Al Bukamal to Deir Ezzor vs ISIS and US backed SDF, beside the Syria-Lebanon border and some parts in South Syria!…Sadly Syria is surrounded by powerful enemies!…the solution is not a truce..its to stop offensive operation and continue with selective airstrike vs HTS in order to avoid that terrorist take oxygen!

In a statement released this afternoon, Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham said they reject any ceasefire with the Syrian and Russian armed forces, vowing to keep fighting them in northwestern Syria. Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham is one of the largest rebel groups in Syria; they make up a large portion of the Turkish-backed National Liberation Front. Despite Ahrar Al-Sham’s rejection, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has not launched an attack in northwestern Syria today. The Syrian military has also halted their airstrikes over the Idlib and Hama governorates in order to adhere to the ceasefire that was brokered by the Russian Armed Forces.

Since they lost their offensive in early May, the Syrian Arab Army has captured approximately 200 square kilometers of territory between northwestern Hama and southwestern Idlib.
Among the areas captured by the Syrian Arab Army since early May are the towns of Kafr Naboudeh, Al-Qasabiyah, and Qal’at Al-Madiq. While they have captured several areas from the jihadists, the Syrian Army has also lost some territory that they previously controlled before launching this offensive. The jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and their Turkish-backed allies have seized approximately 35 square kilometers of territory in northwestern Hama this month. Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and Jaysh Al-Izza recently captured the key hilltop of Tal Malah and the nearby town of Jibeen. The capture of Tal Malah has resulted in the closure of the main road between the government strongholds of Mhardeh and Sqaylabiyeh. The Syrian Arab Army is now preparing to launch a big assault in the coming days to retake this large hilltop from the jihadist rebels and their allies.
