Why would China invade their own territory? Taiwan will fall right into their lap like ripe pear …by itself …. effortlessly. Since ever growing Chinese navy will be everywhere.

Mao planned Taiwan invasion for years but his first attempt failed miserably in 49. Since then China is waiting for Taiwan to fall right into their lap.

All that was before Nixon and Kissinger have decided to transfer all the industry and know how to China to make super power out of hungry nation. Today even Taiwan is minor challenge for Chinese army. The much bigger problem is triggering of the world war with that invasion. And why would China do that now if they are world industrial Super Power second to none? They are getting richer every year and their army keeps getting stronger while US and the west are dwindling away. China is for Status quo and time is on their side.

I agree with most of you saying still Taiwan is not going to fall like a pear or apple as they got used to be free and already seen how Beijing treats Hong Kong.

One can’t have it both ways. It was US who established “Might is right” global rule, by rejecting international treaties of sovereignty for every country, established already by Nuremberg trial in 1945. Aggression, invading countries was considered war crime for which were NAZI’s trailed. But in last 20 years US – NATO have invaded and agressed so many countries on false accusations (Yugoslavia, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Avghanistan etc.) All you people do is aggressive wars and you keep accusing others for your own crimes.

Now when China with 1.5 billion population is becoming mighty power they will use the same methods. As for Hong Kong, that is officially internationally recognized Chinese territory. They can try separatism for their own peril or emigrate to West. They are just handful of population.

Not me neither you are maritime strategist. If admirals decided they need 2 of this kind of ships, that means they know how they will use it. And if we will speak about Odessa, I have some classmates in there and Russia doesn’t need any descent ship to take control over this city. Most of Odessa inhabitants are Russian speakers and they do remember what nazzis did with house of trade unions. It’s not because they are commies, but because Odessa always had their freaks and when nazzis burned they alive it was like a shock for most of population. So Odessa inhabitants are sit quietly now, like they did under Romanian occupation, but if couple of Russian vessels will guarantee them some kind of protection, they will hang most of nazzis by themselves. In fact, it’s Russia which doesn’t want to take them like Crimea. It’s 3d chess game. PS when I were child we traveled to Odessa with my family many times at summer vacation. There are a lot of nice beaches like Arcadia. And I do remember the times when anyone who spoke Ukrainian could be bitten because of it by Odessa inhabitants.

You know that could have happened already if Odessa was not dirrectly protected by NATO. Mariupol would be a more easy target. Crimea was easy because all the higher ranks deffected to Russia as they were already Russian spies. But odessa will be hard. There Yanukovych had less than 50% from what I remember.
