Local sources said that an improvised-explosive device (IED), which had been planted by unknown operatives under al-Akrad’s car, exploded in the early hours of the morning. The former commander was not injured in the explosion, which severally damaged the car.

Al-Akrad was the founder and leader of the so-called Engineering and Rocket Regiment, which was one of the biggest armed groups in southern Syria. Under his command, the regiment participated in all the battles against government forces in Daraa in 2017 and 2018.

Few weeks into the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) 2018 southern Syria campaign, al-Akrad surrendered and opted to join the reconciliation process along with most of his fighters.

Opposition activists claim that al-Akrad’s assassination attempt was orchestrated by the Syrian intelligence. However, this is unlikely because this may undermine the de-escalation process across Syria. The former commander was a known foe of both ISIS and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which makes both groups suspects.

Daraa is so near Israhell… and again “US SEEKS TO DESTABILIZE SOUTHERN SYRIA”

bla

that guy is “already” a dead man walking, just a matter of time , will die next one

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Gee I wonder who would hate this guy the most, lets see, he and 25,000 of his fellow FSA fighters switched sides as soon as it became obvious the SAA were going to thrash them in Daraa, so they swiftly joined Assad’s forces and turned on their old HTS allies just like that, so HTS doesn’t like them. And they did the same thing with Isis, they turned on them too in Daraa and did more fighting against Isis than the SAA did in the end, so Isis hates them as well. And the fact Assad has all those ex FSA fighters he conscripted into the SAA fighting on the front lines in Idlib now won’t make them popular with their old faction the FSA either, last year they were friends and allies, this year they’re mortal enemies. Assad’s sweet justice is so perfect, he’s forcing the ex FSA terrorists from Daraa to to kill the FSA terrorists in Idlib, real justice.
