Abo Ja’far al-Himsi, the leader of Liwa Shuhada al-Islam (Martyrs of Islam Brigade) has been drowned in a river near Darkoush in the Syrian province of Idlib. Liwa Shuhada al-Islam used to operate in Darayya near Damascus. The group evacuated from Darayya to Idlib in September 2016 as a part of the deal with Assad government.

According to local souces, Al-Himsi was allegedly killed in the ongoing infighting between militant groups (Jund al-Aqsa and Ahrar al-Sham are the leading forces of the rival sides) that take place in the Idlib-Hama countryside. The reported reason is that Al-Himsi was supporting the idea that Liwa Shuhada al-Islam should break ties with the so-called “Free Syrian Army” and join to Jaish al-Islam.

The Syrian Army’s Tiger Forces and the National Defense Forces (NDF) have successfully used the terrorists’ infighting, retaking significant areas in northern Hama, including the strategic town of Ma’an. Since October 13, the Tiger Forces and the NDF have been advancing in the direction of Suran.

The advance in massively supported by Syrian and Russian warplanes. Air strikes were reported near Souran, Ma’rdas, Mourek, Toloul al-Humr, Tal Bazam, North of Tal Za’tar, Kafr Zita, Skek, Tal Howair, Atshan, Tal Tar’ai, Hisrayia and al-Latamina. Local sources say that up to 200 militants have been killed in air strikes since the start of the week.

?? has been drowned??

Blaubeere

Maybe he could not swim, as the major part of Syria is dry and a desert?

Peter Jennings

Perhaps he drowned in a mirage.

He sure doesn’t look like he drowned. His skin colour looks as though it has some circulation still going on. Throw some dust over him and take a photo. Maybe it’s a cia asset being extricated.

this is indeed interesting because as it’s written in the article he was a commander who made the deal with the government (to give up their oiriginall standing ground to the government in order to be tranported ti idlib a retreat agreement). hhmm.. so it could be also used as a symbol to all rebels to state deal with assad’s government=retreat=betrayal=death i wonder how the deal is working out for the deal in aleppo where some rebels want to have one. curious to find out what would happen to them if they would make the deal with the government.
