Prominent Syrian Opposition Activist Assassinated In Southern Idlib

Raed Fares on the right side and his colleague, Hammoud al-Junaid on the left.

At the early hours of November 23, unknown gunmen assassinated a prominent Syrian opposition activist, Raed Fares, along with his colleague, Hammoud al-Junaid, in the middle of the town of Kafr Nabl in the southern Idlib countryside.

Fares was the director of Union of Revolutionary Bureaus (URP), while al-Junaid worked as a cameraman for the same organization. Previously, Fares founded the pro-opposition Fresh radio station, which podcasts from Idlib.

Several pro-opposition activists accused Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) [the former branch of al-Qaeda in Syria] of assassinating Fares and his colleague. According to the activists, Feras is well known for his stand against the radical group. HTS’ security forces reportedly arrested and tortured Fares because of this two years ago.

The assassination of Fares is a new example of how HTS is taking advantage of the Russian-Turkish deconfliction agreement on Idlib to expand its influence in the northern governorate by silencing anyone who oppose its will.

Good news, they were traitors to their country by cooperating with Israel-USA-NATO in the destruction of their own country.

Tudor Miron

Another rat (enemy of Syrian people) is dead. Good.

Tommy Jensen

The rats and traitors are the radicals, not people with another stand. As long as we dont know their factual actions we dont have any right to judge the dead.

Smaug

How do we know that HTS did the hit?

Gary Sellars

do we care? As long as the traitor MFer is dead.

Lumi

Could have been Mossad?

A scorpion asks a frog to carry it across a river. The frog hesitates, afraid of being stung, but the scorpion argues that if it did so, they would both drown. Considering this, the frog agrees, but midway across the river the scorpion does indeed sting the frog, dooming them both. When the frog asks the scorpion why, the scorpion replies that it was in its nature to do so. Though the fable is recent, its outlook that certain natures cannot be reformed was common in ancient times, as in Aesop’s fable of The Farmer and the Viper. Here the snake’s reply indicates that what is fundamentally vicious will not change

Could it be “atayarane…harbi Rusi” cameraman with purple arabic letters as logo? Those watching R&U Videos know what I’m asking ?

Concrete Mike

To the author.

I think you missing a.key point of the de escalation zone…russia from day one as been trying to seperare al nusra from “fsa”. What is happenning in idlib is the terrorists seperating themselves…while syria and russia dont lift a finger.

The more al nusra is openly in charge…the easier for saa to clear em out( politically that is).

I dont know the source of this material, but good on southfront to get stories from the terrorists side as well, that last paragraph was bs though

Brother Ma

Yes but all i see is Turkey putting down roots in the area, consequently becoming defacto Turkish land as in occupied Cyprus and occupied West Bank and Golan by Israel. When will these Turcos be pushed out?

Carol Davidek-Waller

Syrian opposition=ISIS and assorted foreign mercenaries.

Gary Sellars

One less filthy traitor…. I hope he didn’t die painlessly.

J Roderet

Great news, another “moderate” head-chopper bites the dust.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

And Erdogan and the FSA don’t, it’s a toss up which is worse.
