‘Propaganda’: US-led Coalition Denies Links To Supply Convoys Being Attacked In Iraq

The US-led coalition has denied any links to the supply convoys which are being attacked by pro-Iranian forces in Iraq on a regular basis.

On September 1, Col. Wayne Marotto, a spokesman for the coalition, said the reports of attacks on US supply convoys in Iraq were “misinformation and propaganda.”

The spokesman went on to claim that the targeted supply convoys were in fact carrying military equipment supplied to Iraqi government forces as a part of the US Counter-ISIS Train and Equip Found (CTEF) program.

“Equipment divested to the ISF [Iraqi Security Forces] in support of its Defeat Daesh [ISIS] mission through the CTEF Program is transported by Iraqi Civilian Logistic Convoys. The equipment is transported to ISF bases,” the spokesman said on Twitter. “Attacking these convoys means the ISF and Iraqi people are being attacked.”

The spokesman failed to explain how military equipment used only by the US-led coalition were spotted in some of the supply convoys which were recently attacked in Iraq.

For example, a HEMTT [Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck] of the US military was spotted with a supply convoy that came under attack in the northern Iraqi province of Saladin on August 18.

Pro-Iranian forces in Iraq began attacking US-led coalition supply convoys and bases following the assassination of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units, and Commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Qassim Soleimani in January of 2020.

On August 31, two convoys moving logistic supplies and equipment for the US-led coalition were targeted in the southern province of al-Dianoia and the central province of Babylon.

The US-led coalition attempts to deny these attacks or portray them as attacks on the ISF and Iraqi people are misleading, to say the least.
