On December 10, thousands of angry Lebanese and Palestinians marched towards the US Embassy in Aaoukar area, located north of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, to protest the US decision to recognize the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The protestors reached the US Embassy building and destroyed its main gate before Lebanese security forces managed to drive them away with tear gas and rubber bullets, according to Lebanese sources.
“The US will not understand unless we destroyed its embassy,” the Lebanese al-Mayadeen TV quoted one of the protestors as saying.
The protest was organized by the Palestinian Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and several other Lebanese parties, including Al-Mourabitoun, the Popular Nasserist Organization, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and the Lebanese Communist Party.
During the protest many leaders of the Lebanese and Palestinians parties called on the Arab countries to cut off its diplomatic ties with the US to protest the decision and put pressure on it.
Lebanese activists revealed that 64 protestors were injured during the clashes with security forces outside of the US Embassy. Security forces also arrested dozens of protestors, and charged them with “disturbing the public security”, according to the activists.
Hezbollah-linked figures, Lebanese and Palestinian activists called for even bigger protests against the US on December 11 in Beirut city.
With many Lebanese politics from the right wing refusing any move against the US, the situation in Lebanon could develop dramatically into further violence. Many Lebanese said that the current tension on the streets remind them of the situation before the outbreak of the Lebanese civil war in 1975.

That’s the only language US will understand, like what happened on April 1983 United States Embassy bombing, the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing, and the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing.
