Opposition supporters and radical militants continue to block the M4 highway, challenging the March 5 Russian-Turkish agreement on Greater Idlib.
On April 3, a large protest against the agreement took place on the highway. Hundreds of people, including militants displaced from southern Syria, attended the protest, ignoring all warnings of COVID-19.
Under the March 5 agreement, Turkey should reopen the M4 highway. Russian and Turkish forces should also conduct joint patrols along the highway. Neither of these terms have been fulfilled, so far.
Earlier this week, Turkey deployed building blocks and engineering equipment along the M4. Opposition sources claim that the Turkish military will be establishing a series of posts and barracks to secure the highway. However, this is yet to be confirmed.
The M4 is blocked in areas controlled by al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP). People couldn’t have protested on the highway without the blessing of these terrorist groups.
Turkey’s failure to reopen the M4 could force the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and is allies to carry out an operation to fulfil this term. This will likely result in a new confrontation with Turkish forces in Greater Idlib.
Turkey already started killing Syrian soldiers with artillery strikes so that speaks for itself. Turkey has made it very clear that they only support terrorism and in fact are themselves terrorists. I don’t know what more do they have to do to make Russia get the point, maybe kidnap Russian ministers and publicly behead them in the middle of Ankara, not sure even then Putin would get the point, there would still be attempts to negotiate as if they were humans and not beasts.
Putin knows that very well, however, you might have to look at what this agreement changed in the war. It might seem very wrong to us but that’s because we don’t know the goal of it. Let me show you the clear points that have been changed with this agreement. First and foremost, the terrorists are not going to receive that same direct support they used to get, this also spawned a new group that is against turkey. The agreement gave the full confirmation that turkey is willing to throw its soldiers in hell to defend terrorism, one would think that turkey would just try to avoid a dangerous confrontation to not lose atleast 20 drones like last time, but no. The other point is giving the Syrian army enough time to reinforce the troops in idleb, to be able to push another time like a blitz, whether turkey objects or not. And also, exhausting all the possible diplomatic solutions available. Russia doesn’t want to risk another confrontation that will weaken relations, and also claim the lives of troops for no actual achievement. But since turkey wants it that way, there is no way out of this except for a direct confrontation. RN, something huge is being prepared, but the preparation needs time, we just need to patient for the time being. “things are gonna get worse before they get better”.
It doesn’t work the way you think. The US Zioterrorists will arm and even train groups that are anti-US if they are useful geopolitically. Nowhere has Turkey said they will not support ISIS/al-Qaeda if hostilities break out again.
I think we’ve seen that when they trained ISIS. Either way, when the offensive starts, it won’t be stopped, and we’ll see how good the Turkish soldiers will be.
What have we won by knowing that Turkey is willing to sacrifice its soldiers for the Jihadis? The argument that the SAA needs time to prepare is bullshit. They could easily finish off the Jihadis in 4 months, if no one would stop their momentum and give the terrorists time to regroup every time when the SAA is on the roll. We saw it during the M5 and Jabal al-zawiya offensive. The SAA was steamrolling the terrorists. When they have built momentum, no one can stop them, but the ceasefires always stop it and give the terrorists time to kill as many SAA troops as possible. We saw that during the 1st phase of the Idlib offensive, the Northwest Hama operation in May. In the first few days of the operation, the SAA easily liberated Kafr Nabudah, but the ceasefire, which was established on May 18, stopped SAA’s momentum and gave the terrorists time to regroup and build new fortifications. Thanks to the ceasfire they could recapture Kafr Nabudah, which became the scene of the bloodiest battle last year. The Jihadis could also capture Jibeen and Tal Malah thanks to the ceasefire. During their advance they killed over 30 SAA soldiers. Without a ceasefire, this would have never happened and they would suffer one setback after another and chaos within their ranks would have broken out. The SAA also needs much time to bomb all of their positions before they start ground assaults. So, they need more bombs, than they would have needed, if there would be only 1 big operation. When SAA soldiers get killed thanks to the ceasefires, they SAA has to deploy new troops from the desert and west coast towards Idlib, which severly weakens the SAA in desert, which helps ISIS to regain influence there.

The old ceasefire was meant to give turkey the chance to take its proxies somewhere else. Now about everything else, I have my sources about how the Syrian army’s offensive works. And judging from it, the terrorists couldn’t score proper advances without excessive Turkish support which the Syrian army wasn’t prepared for. The marathon in idleb was due to the big preparation. Anyways, wait for the offensive, just wait for it, when it starts, it won’t stop no matter what. Remember, the new ceasefire only included terrorist held territory, and now, I don’t think there can be another one anymore.
Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that the SAA will have much success in the next operation. Where do you think will the SAA go for, after the M4 is liberated? I assume they will reopen the Western Aleppo front and advance straight towards the Bab al-Hawa crossing to cut off the main Turkish supply line towards Idlib city and its plain. Afterwards its Idlib cities turn. I hope the SAA will find a way to encircle the city without forcing the civilians to flee it, which I really hate to see. When the areas in Idlib get liberated, the IDPs can return, but the civilians held by the terrorists have to flee alongside them.

With all those ceasefires stretching several weeks each time and the time it takes for the SAA to build momentum, the liberation of Idlib will take up to 3 years, while in reality the SAA could have finished off the Jihadis in Idlib in 3-4 months without a ceasefire. Russia is more harm to Syria then help now. Unfortunately, Syria is dependent on their weapon supplies and political backing, otherwise Iran could start shelling the Jihadis with their missiles and they wouldn’t prevent the SAA from attacking them. Iran is more Syria’s ally than Russia now. No one can deny it, no matter how much Russia did for Syria since 2015.
Without Russia , SAA and those Iranian so called militia were all 6 feet under now. So go and pray for Russia every friday instead of writing epic stories.
