“Provocative” Russian Jet Comes Within 5 Feet Of US Recon Aircraft

Originally appeared at ZeroHedge

Just two days after a US fighter jet shot a Syrian army aircraft out of the sky, and Russia halts cooperation with US military, an armed Russian fighter jet buzzed a U.S. Air Force reconnaissance aircraft in the Baltic Sea on Monday, two U.S. officials told Fox News.

In the latest in a long series of close encounters, FOX News reports the Russian Su-27 jet had missiles under its wings and approached the U.S. Air Force RC-135 recon jet “rapidly,” coming within five feet of the American aircraft, the officials said.

Once alongside, the Russian jet was “provocative” in its flight maneuvers and flying “erratically,” according to another official.

U.S. Air Force RC-135 recon plane

Since June 2nd there have been over 35 interactions in the Baltic Sea region between U.S. and Russian jets and warships, but the incident Monday morning is notable because the U.S. military considered it “unsafe,” according to one official.

As FOX notes, it was not immediately clear how close the US military recon jet was flying near Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave between NATO allies Poland and Lithuania. This fall, Russian moved nuclear-capable ballistic missiles to Kaliningrad, putting some European capitals in strike range.

The idiots in the spy plane are so arrogant that they believe they own all air space wherever they fly. They act surprised when they encounter a Russian fighter near a Russian enclave and WOW, it has missiles!!!!! Pathetic.

javier

so strange being an american and rooting for the other team always

charlie

american terrorists and zionazis are the enemy of all humankind and their collaborators….

VGA

US policies in the Middle East are basically israeli policies.

Spanker Dane

There’s a word for that sort of behavior. Starts with a “T”.

Michael DeStefano

And you fit the bill quite well too. Kiss a salafist for me today, will ya?

testera

Rooting for yourself and the common people is not “rooting for the other team”, quite the opposite.

Orcbuu

Whiny Bitches Flying a SPYPlane and when caught go back and Whine to other Fashists, how they have been treated by the other Government forces they want to Spy on. FUCKING FOOLS.

cortisol

You have it the wrong way round. The US plane came within 5 feet of the Russian jet in a provocative and reckless way. Pentagon dickwits should check their fictional facts like yesterday.

Spanker Dane

So your contention is that the RC-135 was the intercptor, and the Su 27 was the intercepted? You really don’t have the slightest clue about such things, do you?

Antikapitalista

You do not have the slightest clue about sarcasm.

testera

As a result of this event american pilots requested additional shipment of combat diapers, in order to be better prepared for similar incidents and prevent internal damage to the plane. Additionally, Congress is likely to aprove spending of one billion dollars on development of new tactics currently known only by its codename: “flying the dam plane farther from Russia”. In other news, recent research found out that all European capitals were in range of Russian nuclear missiles all the time. It is still not clear how dumb a person need to be in order to get upset by deployment of Russian missiles on Russian terrritory.

Spanker Dane

American pilots have a perfect record against Soviet/Russian aircraft in the past quarter century. You’ll want to ship those diapers to MIG and Su drivers instead.

testera

They have perfect record in kool-aid drinking, and that’s the primary reason for combat diapers deployment. This perfect record has also cause world record in PTSD and suicide rates.

cortisol

Yeah, I’ve been waiting for Top Gun II for over 30 years. Just so not to forget the ultimate American military supremacy, we need Hollywood to remind us of it periodically.

They should also make a movie on the only victorious US war post WW2, the valiant fight against the Grenada police force.

Robert Ferrin

Hey wait a minute Clint Eastwood made a movie of that another “Porkchop Hill” and that one sucked too…

paulgilpin

actually, kaliningrad is an exclave.

and i’m not buying the 5 feet BS. you wouldn’t be able to get within 5 feet of an aircraft that size without the wake turbulence flipping you. wake turbulence in this case flipped a private jet that was a thousand feet from an a-380. and while this aircraft is not the size of an a-380, 5 ft is BS.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/private-jet-flipped-over-wake-turbulence-airbus-a380-reports-n736861

Spanker Dane

There is zero wake turbulence to an aircraft flying the same heading and perpendicular to another aircraft.

paulgilpin

You are an idiot.

Wake turbulence is created at the leading edge of an object moving through a fluid. That is fluid mechanics 101. In water it is the bow of the ship, in the air it is the nose of the plane.

I routinely post at the flightaware.com website and I would like to share your idiocy with the readers there. Please explain to me, as only you will be able to do, how an aircraft can be flying the same heading as another plane AND be flying perpendicular to that heading. And please don’t tell me that you are stupid enough to think that an intercept trajectory, in military parlance, means that one aircraft actually crosses the path of the other aircraft. Similar to a missile trajectory. Interceptions are made by approaching from aft, at aircraft speed. Audio communications are established. At the speed of modern jet aircraft, crossing paths would be suicide. Something you should consider.

Rodger

For a jet it’s probably a lot like water-skiing, just good fun.

gustavo

I am agree that Russia is a provocative country (as someone else pointed out), explain me ¿ which country in the World like to put its country around the USA airbases ?
