On the night of January 30th, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched drone strikes in the Russian border regions. The night attack was not massive but Ukrainian UAVs managed to inflict damage to Russian rear infrastructure.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, only five Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed during the night. Three of them were shot down in the border Belgorod region. Two other drones were destroyed in the border Bryansk region.
As a result of the attack, a fire broke out in the area of Novozibkovo in the Bryansk region. Oil pumping station that belongs to the Druzhba pipeline was reportedly the target of the strikes.
Ukrainian media shared footage of the fire claiming damage to the station. Later some local sources reported that fire broke out at private houses. No damage to the station was confirmed.
It is also not clear what weapon was used for the strikes. According to some unconfirmed reports, the station was attacked by two NATO missiles or HIMARS MLRS. According to other Ukrainian reports, the Ukrainian military launched ultralight aircraft, presumably skyranger Ninja or Aeroprokt A-22, upgraded to unmanned vehicles and equipped with heavy bombs, like FAB-100 or FAB-250M-54. Earlier, the Ukrainian military had already used such kamikaze aircraft carrying aerial bombs in strikes on Russian territory, but the choice was limited to the FAB-100.
The Russian military is yet to confirm the strikes if indeed any damage was inflicted. This is far from the first attack on the infrastructure of the Druzhba oil pipeline since the beginning of the Russian Special Military Operation, and it is the third strike on the Russian oil transportation infrastructure in the last two days. Kiev is fulfilling the will of Washington to inflict maximum damage to possible Russian energy supplies to Europe.
In their turn, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue daily precision strikes on Ukrainian rear infrastructure. According to the Air Force of Ukraine, in total, 81 drones were launched. 37 Russian UAVs were allegedly destroyed, 39 more were “locally lost” and did not reach their targets. As usual, Ukrainian victories in the official reports are denied by fires across the country.
On the night of January 30, Ukrainian electronic warfare means, oil depots, shipbuilding plant, military bases and large warehouses came under another wave of Russian strikes in different regions. Russian strikes were recorded in the Chernihiv, Poltava, Sumy, Odessa, Dnepropetrovsk regions. Explosions thundered in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Khmelnitsky, Zhitomir regions.
The attack began on the evening of January 29th, when a series of large explosions thundered in Chernihiv. Ukrainian media widely shared footage of fires in private houses and local authorities claimed that some abandoned houses were struck but their attempts to hide the truth led to no result. Russian military observers revealed that a facility used by electronic intelligence and surveillance forces hidden on the territory of the Kolos settlement was struck. According to radio intercepts, the radar station supplied by NATO was deployed at the facility. As a result of the attack, the UAV command and control station was destroyed. Blue and white flashes were seen in the areas, indicating damage to the radar antenna and hardware complex and its power sources. The facility’s power system, including backup generators and communication systems, has been completely disabled.
The southern region of Odessa came under the third wave of strikes in a row. As a result of the massive strikes, key logistical and military facilities providing supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine through the Danube port were heavily damaged. At least three entreprises came under attack. They were used to store fuel supplied from Europe, repair Ukrainian unmanned boats and store grain supplied including for military needs.
Another Ukrainian logistics hub hidden on the territory of an agricultural enterprise was revealed and struck by Russian drones. Warehouses with ammunition, military equipment and weapons were destroyed in the Poltava region.
Ukrainian air defense continues intercepting Russian drones in the cities, increasing the number of civilian casualties. Russian drone was intercepted by Ukrainian EW means and fell on an apartment building in Sumy. At least one civilian was killed, nine others were wounded.
