Vladimir Putin telephoned Ilham Aliyev to apologise for the tragic incident. He noted that the plane was landing amid Ukrainian drone attacks on cities in the North Caucasus.
The two leaders discussed the situation in a telephone conversation initiated by the Russian side. Vladimir Putin apologised for the fact that the tragic incident took place in Russian airspace and once again expressed his deep and sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured,’ the Kremlin said in a statement.

The Kremlin noted that the Azerbaijani plane made several attempts to land at Grozny airport. At the time, Grozny, Mozdok and Vladikavkaz were attacked by Ukrainian combat drones, and Russian air defences repelled these attacks,’ the statement said.
The plane crashed three days ago, on 25 December. It was on a flight from Baku to Grozny and made two unsuccessful attempts to land at Grozny airport due to fog, poor visibility and the ‘Kover plan’, which requires all aircraft in the air to land immediately or withdraw from a certain area, Rosaviatsia reported. Of the 67 people on board, 38 died, including seven Russians.

Azerbaijan Airlines stated that ‘physical and technical external interference’ was the cause, while the Azerbaijani transport ministry also reported ‘external interference’.

ukraine on the 15 december 2024 sent “a long-range suicide drone that hit a building of the riot police department of the national guard of the russian federation in the area of the city of grozny in the chechen republic. ukraine, was gifting grozny with an assault of drones, as the russian territory was defending itself. would a plane be able to fly if hit by ad? it would if hit by a drone.
russian jet were down by turkey no respond,israel down russian planes by causing confusion no respond.egypt to russia plane down ukraine with france help down many russian jets no respond.but when it come to passenger plane down which russia will never cause it is always accused off by nato.

collateral damage… a manpad (infra-red guided) would have hit one of the engines, but both engines were still intact. a full-sized sam would have blown a small airliner like this straight from the sky. the damage pattern didn’t look like that of a deliberate sam attack. it looked more like a combination of debris and shrapnel. so it was probably an exploding drone, or a sam hitting a nearby drone. this plane wasn’t a target, it was just in the wrong place at the wrong time…
