Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with parents of police lieutenant Magomed Nurbagandov, killed by terrorists on July 16, and announced that he had signed a decree on awarding the policeman with the Star of the Hero of the Russian Federation.

Nurbagandov was killed on July 10 near the village of Sergokala in Dagestan, when armed men attacked five vacationers and shot to death two of them, including Nurbagandov. According to investigation, a motive for the killing was revenge for professional activity of the policeman.

A video, which was found in a phone of one of the gunmen, killed during a special operation in the town of Izberbash, allowed to learn about courage, showed by the police lieutenant before his death.

Pointing a gun at Nurbagandov, a criminal tried to make him to say on camera that his family and friends should leave a job in law enforcement. However, the policeman said, referring to his relatives and friends: “Keep working[serve], brothers.” After these words, the gunman shot him.

The head of the state apologized for having invited the parents in this difficult time for them and said that he wanted to shake their hands and thank them for the son.

“He is a true hero, and so yesterday I signed a decree on awarding him with the Star of the Hero of the Russian Federation. He is a hero because not every person remains faithful to the oath and duty, remains faithful to his people under the threat of death, execution,” the President said.

According to Putin, only cowardly people can shoot at an unarmed person, and only true heroes are fearless to face death.

The head of the state admitted that no words can reduce parental grief. He also stressed that “people all over Russia, who have a heart, conscience and at least a bit of mind well aware of what happened.”

The star of the Hero will be handed to Nurbagandov’s parents at a solemn ceremony on Thursday.
