Putin Says Ukrainian Counteroffensive Failed After Desperate Drone Attack On Russia

The Ukrainian counteroffensive, which has been underway since early June, has completely failed, Russia’s president Vladimir Putin said during an interview with the Rossiya 1 channel that was aired on October 15.

In the short interview, Putin was asked to comment on recent statements by some Ukrainian officials, who acknowledged that their counteroffensive was stalling and failing to meet its schedule.

“As for the counteroffensive that is allegedly stalling – it has failed completely,” the Russian leader replied.

Moscow is aware that Kiev is “still preparing new active offensive operations. We see that. We know that. And we’re reacting to that appropriately,” he stressed.

“As for what’s happening now along the whole length of the contact line, it’s called active defense and our [Russian] forces are improving their positions almost everywhere in this area,” Putin noted.

The Russian military is making gains near the city of Kupyansk in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, as well as in Zaporozhye region, the Avdeevka area in the Donetsk People’s Republic, and other locations, the president added.

“I want to thank the Armed Forces, the military leadership and, first of all, our fighters on the frontline for their courage,” Putin said.

In an apparent attempt to make up for the blatant failure of its counteroffensive, the Kiev regime stepped up attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks. A large-scale drone attack on facilities in the regions of Kursh and Belgorod was foiled hours before Putin’s interview was aired.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement a total of 27 Ukrainian suicide drones were shot down by Russian air defenses.

“An attempt of the Kiev regime to make a terrorist attack by fixed-wing type drones against facilities in the territory of the Russian Federation was prevented tonight. Air defense systems on duty intercepted 27 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, including 18 over the Kursk Region and 2 over the Belgorod [Region] destroyed in the air,” the statement reads.

Large blasts were heard over Kursk and Belgorod as a result of the interceptions. However, no casualties or material losses were reported there or in any other region.

Ukraine sustained catastrophic losses during the counteroffensive. Entire units were wiped out and billions of dollars worth of military equipment supplied by NATO and other backers were destroyed. Despite these losses, Kiev forces failed to break through Russian defenses in any direction.

this is becoming the endless story… so the ucranian offensive failed completely and the only thing russia makes out of that is “active defense” and improving their defensive positions for the next wave in spring? what is actually putins plan for this conflict? 10-12 years of positional battles until kiev returns to the negotiation table and then some compromise and ten years later the next war against them?

isn’t it time for a real movilization and finishing this kiev regime now?

G. Saviano

his strategy is flawless he is redefining modern warfare from a defensive standpoint. reversed engineered all of hitler’s mistakes. in the age of tactical nukes — is why his defensive positions are dynamic / fluid. i am translating from italian. sorry if it sounds broken.

G. Saviano

he does not want to conquer ukraine and draw parallels to hitler’s poland invasion. nor does he want to spread too thin and get bled out by a war of attrition, asymmetrical/ guerrilla terrorist attacks once the ukrainian army admits defeat

Florian Geyer

you confuse strategy and tactic’s.

i would argue that killing or capturing ukie rats that follow the ‘pied piper’ to their doom is a better strategy than chasing ukies all over ukraine.

NDR7652

exactly but russia is still operating under the concept that these ukrainians are “slavic” brothers

in the meantime the nazi refugees fled to the usa for safety while christian and atheist draftees die in the trenches; wasn’t there a movie called, “it’s a wonderful world”.

it looks more like the battle of the buldge occupying a few fields then this great counter offensive that would take everything including crimea the ukranian propagandists boasted about. they failed. even the f16s they will get wont save them they will only weaken european defense capabilities russia can easily shoot them down like flies with s400 and m1 tor etc. it would be better if there was more pressure on negotiations and a peace settlement.

only peace negotiations can put an end at the enless suffering and thousands of deaths this war has caused. both sides have a position from which a settlement could be achieved. further prolonged fighting will only result in thousands dead that would make a peace settlement even more difficult to achieve
