Putin Suggests Bashar al-Assad Should Invite Trump to Visit Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad should invite US President Donald Trump to visit Syria, a video showed.

The video shows the conversation between Assad and Putin at the Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary in Damascus. President Assad mentions the Apostle Paul’s conversion to Christianity after a vision at the gate of Damascus.

“If Trump arrives along this road, everything will become normal with him too,” the Syrian leader said.

“It will be repaired … invite him. He will come,” Putin reportedly said.

The Syrian President then said that he would like to invite Trump.

Putin, smiling, responded: “I will tell him.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a visit to Damascus on January 7th, in a surprise visit. The Russian leader met with Syrian President Bashar Assad in the Russian command point in Syria. The two leaders listened to the military’s report on the situation in the country’s region. Later they held bilateral talks. The presidents also visited the Umayyad Mosque, also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus.

Putin, then, visited an Orthodox church in Damascus, the Mariamite Cathedral, where he met with Patriarch John X, the primate of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All The East.

The two leaders made a joint statement, praising progress that’s being made in Syria and in the fight against terror, but that there is still much to do and the challenges are numerous.

“As for Syria, your efforts and our joint work have dramatically changed things. Not only is there a dramatical change, we are witnessing the restoration of Syrian statehood, of Syria as a unified nation.

There are many more issues to resolve, however. In the north of the country, in the east, in the north-west and in the south. But what I was greatly pleased to see while being driven around Damascus was that life was coming back to the streets, which were actually bustling. There are a lot of cars on the roads, shops are open along with cafes and restaurants. But much is yet to be done to rebuild the Syrian economy,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

In response, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said the following:

“As I have said, whenever we advance and achieve success, the situation becomes more complicated, unfortunately, due to repeated attempts to bring back and elevate terrorists and terrorism.

For that reason, I believe that your visit today is very important for us to be able to discuss the obstacles and difficulties that are hindering a political settlement and what we can do to coordinate our efforts to ensure continued success in our fight against terrorism.”

Separately, on January 12th, the Turkish-Russia brokered ceasefire in Idlib took effect, and according to Turkey it was holding steadily.

“The cease-fire took effect in both Libya and Idlib on Jan. 12 at 00.01 a.m. local time [2200GMT]. The cease-fire implemented in both regions is an important step toward establishing stability and peace by stopping the attacks, preventing loss of life and migration outflows and contributing to the normalization of life,” the Turkish Defense Ministry said.

The statement added that Turkey is closely monitoring the situation in the region.

“It is being observed in both regions that the parties have tried to comply with the cease-fire since the announcement and the situation is calm except for one or two cases,” it concluded.

On January 10th, Russia announced that for it the ceasefire had begun on January 9th.

“According to the agreements with the Turkish side, the ceasefire regime was introduced in the Idlib de-escalation zone starting from 14:00 Moscow time (11:00 GMT) on January 9, 2020,” Russian Major-General Yury Borenkov was quoted as saying.

On January 12th, immediately after the ceasefire was established and was “holding well” according to Turkey, Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) violated the new ceasefire and started shelling areas in Aleppo’s city center. It is an open secret that HTS is backed by Ankara.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Are they just having a laugh, I don’t think so, I think behind the jesting there’s a hint of the truth, Iran may yet come to regret pushing Russia too far, and I’ll bet the Iranians choke a little when they see these particular comments Putin and Assad just made. Trumps been saying Assad can remain in power for 18 months now, Trump refused to support the FSA during the Daraa/Quneitra campaign, he told them to reconcile with the government instead of fighting, He’s also been bombing some terrorist in Idlib, 40 terrorist leaders killed in one strike, he also placed bounties on 3 other leaders, Trump also said he had no problems with Assad attacking the terrorists in Idlib, his only qualification was that Assad should be careful not to harm civilians, Trump also tried to pull the US out of Syria several times, the first few time his own side stopped him but now the Turks are stopping him, but he still wants to get out, Trump ALLOWED the UN to negotiate new amendments to resolution 2254, and Assad accepted immediately, and the US IS VIRTUALLY the UN. It seems unlike many of my fellow SF readers, Putin and Assad aren’t stuck in the past, the US under Obama and previous US leaders were the boogeymen we were all rightly scared of, but Trump’s just a peace dove, even Assad has said Trump is the most transparent of all the US leaders. Since Trump’s been in power things have changed 1,000,000 percent, just look at his reaction [lack of reaction] to the Iranian strike, I laugh when I hear people say he’s a warhawk. North Korea first, the Taliban, then Venezuela, and now Iran, so hopefully Syria’s next in line for some of Donald’s harsh treatment, he can start beating Assad to death with a soft pillow too. Invite him Assad, all jokes aside invite him, we all know he’ll never come [even if he wanted to], but the official invite would at the very least start a direct dialogue between the US and Syria. And for anybody about to say, ‘but what about the Iranians they’d be upset’, the fact that Putin made this remark even in jest [I don’t think it is], is sending a strong message to Iran, most of my fellow SF readers are completely oblivious to the tensions between Russia and Iran in Syria right now, and they’ll hear these comments and think nothing much of them, but to the Iranians, these simple little words will be ringing in their ears like loud thunderclaps, Iran’s new best friend Erdogan will also be choking on the comments too, LOL LOL LOL.

Free man

Rapprochement between Syria and the United States is a game changer.

roland

You Trump supporters are delusional if you think he is not on board with the world wide agenda of war and destabilization look at the murder of Soleimani Trump murdered him in revenge for him destroying American Isis assets in the middle east and don’t you remember Trump calling Assad an animal and then launching a hundred tomahawk missiles at civilian targets in syria

Willing Conscience (The Truths

LOL, Trump is the last person on earth wanting war, he and Putin are on the same page there, Trumps the first president for a long time that isn’t starting any new wars anywhere, in fact he’s doing the opposite, so don’t believe the LGBTQI run MSM, they all lie through their teeth about Trump, and you’re the one who’s being delusional if you believe anything different. And you’re totally delusional if you think Trump attacked Syrian civilians with that missile strike, it’s well known the Russians were warned beforehand and relocated much of the targeted infrastructure, in fact many experts claimed it cost the US way more than the Syrians lost. And since June last year Trump’s been saying Assad can remain in power, that’s 18 months he’s been saying it, and just a few months ago Trump also stated he had no problems at all with Assad eradicating all the terrorist elements in Idlib, and with Assad taking back control of the whole governorate, the only thing Trump added was he hoped Assad would be very careful not to harm the civilian population there. I find most the people opposed to Trump are usually pro LGBTQI proponents, and as I said they make up complete and utter BS about him, when we see the US start another war while Trumps in charge, you can say you’re right, until then you can’t. I know I’m not as clever as Putin or Assad but I wasn’t the one who made the remarks, the 2 clever men did, and clever men never make stupid jokes they know will offend their ally Iran, they make stupid jokes to send messages, and it’s one you failed to hear, but I did, and so have the Iranians and Turks, and the US too. Donald will be rubbing his hands together with glee and the Iranians and Turks will be frantic, but the Russians will have a big smug grin on their faces that they won’t be able to hide, Assad I’m not so sure about, he has quite an affinity towards the Iranians, unlike the Russians, so he may not have been a totally willing partner in this well publicised ‘spontaneous off the cuff remark’. But you think this means they all want to go to war, I don’t know why you think that, it actually sent me the opposite message.

roland

You look at things through rose coloured glasses everyone in the know is shitting themselves at this world situation nothing much has changed since Obama do you honestly believe the deep state would let trump walk in and change things and also those missiles that Trump chucked at Syria were meant to kill a lot more people than they did it was Russian ew system that fucked up the missiles accuracy. if trump and putin were on the same page why is trump putting sanctions on Russia Syria and iran who by the way are enemies of the deep state cabal that controls most of the world oh and another thing I fucking hate that LGBT shit it’s currupting the world

Willing Conscience (The Truths

So you think I looking at things too optimistically, you don’t think there’s even the slightest possibly that it might just be you that’s being overly pessimistic.

“everyone in the know is shitting themselves at this world situation”

But Putin and Assad aren’t shitting themselves, they’re actually cracking jokes and having a laugh [article above], and at the expense of the very people you’re the most worried about upsetting, the IRANIANS, a joke about letting the US into Syria isn’t funny to the Iranians, it actually does he same thing to them that my comment did to you, worries and upsets them. But I’m going to give you a like for the last part of your comment, that I do agree with wholeheartedly.

roland

Why do you dislike the Iranians if they’re government falls that’s another domino to fall and we are one step closer having the Satan worshipping gangs rule the entire planet and I have seen no evidence trump is working against these people are you aware that he gave isreal the security contract for the border wall between Mexico and USA and the isrealis are using powerful technology 5g sort of stuff to spy on Americans gee thanks trump that guy should be hung for treason

Willing Conscience (The Truths

I admire the Iranians very much, the Persian people and their Zoroastrian faith are the reason I actually call my Avatar Willing Conscience. I grew up watching Iran change, from a US puppet government/regime under the Sha, to a full fledged democracy, and then back to a puppet government thanks to US intervention, and now finally into an extremist Islamic controlled system of democracy. But unfortunately in Iran religion overrides everything else, which is ok if you’re religious and belong to the particular religion in charge, but if you’re not it’s look out, so no I’m not a big fan of the Iranian political system. I’ll make you a challenge, if you can show me any any significant differences between the political/religious System the Iranians have in place, and the one that Isis and the Muslim brotherhood want to impose on the rest of the Muslim world, please point them out, because apart from the fact one is a Shia faith and the other is a Sunni faith, there is no real difference, and please don’t say something like the Iranians only chop thieves hands off on a friday and the Sunnies do it on a saturday or something like that, it won’t count. You may have missed what Trump and Pompeo were saying to Iran just a few months ago, I’m ad libbing but it went something like this, ‘all you have to do is give up your nuclear ambitions to appease the Israelis, and we’ll accept you straight back into the world community with no retributions, you can become rich because we’ll drop most of our sanctions and we can all be happy’ I know it’s not a fair deal, but I think the Iranians should have at least negotiated a little, that was a lifeline for ending all hostilities. And what does Russia think about Iran, do you know, apart from the obvious that is, I suggest you do some proper research, and when you do, I also suggest you take exactly the same stance on the Iranians as the Russians do, exactly the same stance.

Putin doesn’t like what the Iranians are doing in Syria and I agree with him, the Iranians are just making trouble with the US/Israel and not helping out with the fighting at all, they’re taking over huge chunks of Syria and causing problems with the local Sunnis, in Deir ez Zor especially, so Putin’s getting Assad to sack nearly all the pro Iranian military commanders and government officials, and that’s because they’re only loyal to Iran not Syria or Russia. SF published several articles on Russia’s establishment of it’s own loyal mitiatia’s but failed to tell us the real reason they were needed, but some of us read heaps of different news sources and know exactly why Russia needs it’s own loyal militias, and you should find out for yourself too.

There are NO good leaders, not even Trump, it’s just plain and simple some are worse than others, and a religious fanatic in charge of nuclear weapons scares me a lot. Unlike those zealots in charge of Iran, I don’t believe that when I’m killed I’ll go to heaven and receive 72 virgins as a reward for my sins, as I said I think a lot more like the old Persians did, your own conscience teaches you right from wrong, and their Sharia law is not that much different to Sunnis Sharia law, so if you like the idea of Iran as a country, you shouldn’t ever criticise Isis wanting to do the same thing for themselves.

roland

The major differences between the Sunni and Shia is that in recent times the Sunnis are allied and controlled by isreal and while im no fan of the Iranian mullahs they are not half as insane as the people who created Isis who are not Muslim by the way they are satanists that mostly live in western countries and the Shias have been resisting these monsters I will back these people every time and the Shia militias who have fought Isis do not kidnap Syrians and harvest their organs or chop kids heads off there is a massive difference between Isis and the people fighting them as to the nuclear thing the current regime will never produce nuclear weapons simply because the mullahs have issued a statement banning their use because they see nuclear weapons as evil. It’s a sad state of affairs when the mullahs of Iran are teaching us in the west lessons about being civilised. And can anyone tell me how Iran threatens America in any way because as far as I see they only threaten isreal and its Isis proxys

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Isis are just the foot soldiers for the Muslim Brotherhood, so comparing Iran to Isis is like comparing the UK military to the US political system, what you need to do is compare the Muslim Brotherhood [MB] ideology and their formula for sectarian democracy, to the Iranian version, that’s the comparison you should make. The Muslim Brotherhood and Isis want to overthrow all the pro Israel countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan, but they don’t want to overthrow Erdogan in Turkey. Human rights abuses in Iran may not be as bad as the atrocities Isis commits in other countries, but they’re pretty close to being nearly as bad in their own country.

roland

20000 Jews live in Iran in safety and comfort so I don’t believe Iran is such a bad place

Willing Conscience (The Truths

There’s a lot of Iranian protesters out on the streets now, some of them are unhappy about something, and though I know some of the protests concern economic problems US sanctions have caused, there are other reasons some of the protesters are out on the streets. I’m not totally anti Iran you know, I just want them to stop harming Syria’s interests by enhancing their own, they don’t need to build all that threatening infrastructure on Syrian soil to scare the Israelis, that’s only helping themselves and harming both Russia and Syria’s interests.

roland

Isis wanted to take over the world Iran just wants to stay Iran

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Iran wants to take over Syria and Russia’s trying to stop them, that’s what my original comment alluded to. If Iran just wanted to stay Iran it wouldn’t fund militias in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen, I’m not saying they shouldn’t, but the simple fact they do makes your argument mute, Iran does want more than just to be left alone to be Iran, it want’s power and influence, just like everybody else does, and as you know the US and Israel are doing everything in their power to deny Iran that power and influence.

roland

Yea but if they didn’t do that Iran would have been attacked and a deep state puppet regime would be in power and that is in nobody’s interest except the isrealis and illuminati

Willing Conscience (The Truths

There’s only one problem with what you say, because even though I agree with you, solidarity between Iraq, Syria and Iran is important in helping all 3 countries resist foreign military and/or economic meddling in their internal affairs, Russia isn’t playing the same game. Do you think Russia’s doing much to assist the Iranians right now, just as Trump and the US threaten the Iranians with all manner of consequences, no they’re not, they’re just paying lip service and doing nothing at all substantial to help them. And what about protecting Iranian assets from Israeli airstrikes, Russia could do way more to protect Iran but it doesn’t, and unlike many others I don’t believe it’s because Putin’s a secret Zionist sympathizer, there’s another reason the Israelis are allowed to hit Iranian infrastructure on Syrian/Russian territory. And Putin and Assad’s joke about inviting Trump to Syria, did you ever imagine they’d make a joke like that, especially just as all this craps going down, that’s just about the last thing they should be joking about while their friends are in so much trouble. Though the Iranians desperately need the Russians help they still stab Russia in the back when it suits them, so when I see the US escalating it’s threatening rhetoric, the Israelis bombing the Iranians in Syria with impunity, and Putin and Assad making jokes at Iran’s expense, I can only suspect the Russians aren’t so opposed to the Iranian’s being pulled back a peg or two, because what we all see happening is all actually in Russia’s best interests. A lot of people call me an anti Putin troll because I absolutely hate some of the actions he’s taken or not taken in Syria, but I actually admire him because he’s really very clever, and I think he’s very cleverly taking advantage of just about everybody right now, the US and Israel, the Syrian and Iranians, and Turkey. Nothings happening that Putin doesn’t want to happen, when he gets what he wants the status quo will return, but this time Russia will gain even more power in the region, and he may even end up being the good guy for everyone, the Iranians, Iraqis, and Syrians, the Turks, US, EU, and Israel.

roland

Russia.actually has helped the Iranians a lot it was Russian supplied ew system that renders the patriot air defence useless against Iranian missiles as well as other military hardware and when Soleimani was killed the Russians immediately sent a some high level military figures to Iran not only to send condolences but to hold meetings with the top Iranian brass I don’t doubt there is friction between Iran and Russia but when you say Russia has been letting isreal attack Iranians insyria it’s really not the case most of the isreali attacks on Syria has been against Syrian soldiers not Iranians I think Iran’s role in Syria has been overstated by certain people

Willing Conscience (The Truths

I think you’ll find that all Israeli attacks against Syria are all designed to harm Iranian interests, Syria’s always just the collateral damage.

roland

Have to disagree with you there isreal is desperate to get rid of the Syrian government mostly because of Syrian support for Hezbollah Syria is more important to the isrealis because of its close proximity to isreal Iran on the other hand is a far away place and could not successfully launch devestating attacks on isreal from its borders Syria can cause isreal a lot of damage remember Isis was created to take out the Syrian government first then remove Hezbollah from Lebanon I believe Isis main target was Hezbollah

Willing Conscience (The Truths

The Israeli government haven’t been trying to get rid of Assad since June last year, and that’s because both Trump and the Israelis have been saying this, “Assad can remain in power”. Israel no longer demands that Assad be removed from power, the only thing they demand from him is that he remove all Iranian interests from Syria. And in a way they’ve actually become allies in Assad’s war against Turkish occupation.

roland

You do realise they are only saying he can remain in power after exhausting all options of removing him from power

Willing Conscience (The Truths

The real reason both the US and Israel have been saying Assad can remain in power is the Arab League’s change of heart, they realized that Erdogan and the Muslim Brotherhood were much more of a threat than Assad was, and also got the Israelis and US to change their tune too. I’ve made numerous post since June last year explaining the situation and why everyone but Erdogan is saying Assad can remain in power. I suggest following what the Arab League have to say about the Muslim Brotherhood, Erdogan, and Syria, that will explain the change from “Assad has to go” to “Assad can stay”.

roland

At what point do stop accepting the least worst option to be our leaders and maybe aim a little higher

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Why do we need leaders at all is the question I often ask.

roland

Some people make jokes when theyre under pressure

roland

Do you honestly believe it’s trump who makes the decision to go to war he is nothing more than an actor reading of a script and it’s a fair bet the people writing the script are isrealis.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Yes I do believe he has the power to go to war if he wanted to, and I also believe that none of the anti Trump government bureaucracy would be able to stop him either, but he doesn’t want to go to war. And he’s not abiding by any of the normal rules I’ve ever seen applied to any the US president before him, and that’s despite the fact both the US bureaucracy and LGBTQI media are changing the rules to try and stop him. Do you ever read Jewish news, I do nearly every day, so when you say Trumps reading from a Zionist script I just laugh, Trump can’t be a very good reader if he’s reading from a Zionist script, LOL. he gives with one hand and takes away with the other, that’s what the Jewish news says.

roland

You still have faith in.the political process don’t you despite example after example that should prove to you that it’s been completely corrupted. Although I do kind of admire your optimism in the face of impending disaster democracy while looks good on paper is just too easy to infiltrate because in a democracy anyone can get into a position of power if they want all you need is peice of paper from a university a nice suit and you can get into powerful government positions and a evil people seem to have done this very successfully most of the countries they couldn’t infiltrate were places like Syria and Libya who don’t have western style democracy so they blow them up then walk through the ashes of that place and take power and Iran is in the same boat

Willing Conscience (The Truths

I don’t believe in multi party democracy at all, 4 or 5 year cycles of popularity contests with no long term strategies, LOL, are you kidding me, China has the best democracy of all [except for Hong Kong], if you want to vote you join the party, if you don’t you put up with what someone else tells you to do, perfect system, especially when no one except for criminals and foreigners are barred from joining the party, everyone can have a say.

roland

The funny thing is in Australia where im from no one except criminals and foreigners are allowed to hold positions of power

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Funny thing is I’m an Aussie too and I’ve noticed the same thing, just like I’ve noticed that straight people who hold traditional values can’t work at the ABC or SBS, we live in a very funny country don’t we.

roland

The ABC are the worst propagandists in our country but can you name anyone in the msm in this country that speaks the truth

Willing Conscience (The Truths

So now you’re asking me to do the impossible, that’s cruel. :]

roland

Good to see an Aussie that’s awake and aware have you been affected by the fires

Willing Conscience (The Truths

No thankfully, the closest fire to me was 40 km away so only affected by smoke, but my mum in QLD had it across the river from her home just a couple of km away and was supposed to evacuate, she didn’t because she thought the river would stop the fire, lucky for me and mum it didn’t cross the river, but I told her next time just go, the river won’t stop the fire at all, she was just very lucky. What about you, are you one of the lucky ones or are you choking to death like half the rest of the population, or worse still cleaning up after a fire, hopefully you’re not.

roland

No Wollongong was about the only place on the east coast that wasnt directly affected but everyone in this country will be affected in some way expect food prices to rise and getting insurance will be a nightmare im getting really worried about food security in this country so many of the smaller farmers are leaving the land that has happened in a lot of other countries and farming tends to get taken over by giant corporations who don’t have the people’s best interest at heart

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Good to hear. This sort of crisis has happened before and it’ll happen again, another bump in the road, the trend you mentioned has me much more worried long term.

roland

All you see is a lot of anti Trump shit which I grant you is hypocritical and often wrong but there is also a lot of pro trump propaganda too the only reason he hasn’t blown up Iran is it’s not the right time the us military isn’t in position yet they are waiting for the sanctions to really start biting then they will act another example of trump’s bastadry is how he has been dealing with the Iraqi pm standing over him for his oil in the most nasty way look into that little affair and come and tell me you have a righteous good man as your leader

Willing Conscience (The Truths

I can’t defend Trump’s bad behaviour and don’t want to. I condemned his capitulation and agreement to the Israelis occupying more Palestinian land, but I applauded him when he said Assad could remain in power 18 months ago, so I give credit where it’s due and criticise when I think it’s appropriate.

roland

You say trump doesn’t want war right after the us military commits an act of war (assasinating Soleimani) do you trump supporters realise how stupid you sound

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Do you realize how stupid your remark is, Trump’s assassination was US retribution for the death of a UC contractor, and the Iranian counterstrike was justifiable reason for Trump to start a war if that’s what his intentions were, but he didn’t he backed down instead, just like he did with North Korea, the Taliban, and Venezuela.

palegreendot

“…and just a few months ago Trump also stated he had no problems at all with Assad eradicating all the terrorist elements in Idlib, and with Assad taking back control of the whole governorate, the only thing Trump added was he hoped Assad would be very careful not to harm the civilian population there.”

Very interesting, but reference, please?

Willing Conscience (The Truths

I’ve looked for over an hour and this is the best I can do, I know there are much better articles with quotes and official statements but I can’t find them, google is becoming very annoying and giving me the opposite results of what I search for, THE EXACT OPPOSITE grrr. These 3 article and links however do suggest the US + UN and Russia came to an arrangement before the Idlib campaign started, and as I said in my comment, the stipulation was that when targeting the terrorists, the SAA/SAAF/Russia/Iran, had to minimise civilian casualties, and warned not to use use CW [which Assad doesn’t anyway], and which I forgot to mention in my comment. However there is a video of Trump himself saying, and I’m ad libbing, ‘I have no problem with Assad attacking the terrorists, just so long as he doesn’t harm civilians’. …

“The US, meanwhile, has no strategic interest in Idlib and has indicated that it does not oppose a limited offensive on Idlib. It also wants the HTS eliminated and has already targeted a number of its leaders through drone attacks. However, Washington has threatened military action if the Syrian government uses chemical weapons.” https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/09/looming-battle-idlib-180908142026400.html

“What has the UN said? UN special envoy Staffan de Mistura has warned of a “perfect storm” if the government went ahead with a full-scale offensive. The jihadists must be defeated but not at the expense of thousands of civilian lives, Mr de Mistura told reporters. He called for further talks on a political solution, or for humanitarian corridors to be set up to allow civilians to be evacuated temporarily to a safer area, most likely one under government control.” https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-45404086

“The dilemma is that Idlib shelters some three million people, more than a third of whom fled the conflict in other parts of Syria and have nowhere left to run. It is also a hotbed of the armed opposition, dominated by Islamist militants, the most powerful of which is said to have links to al-Qaeda. Russia wants to get rid of these “terrorists”, who launch drone attacks on its nearby airbase. So does the US. Turkey, which has backed some of the rebel forces in Idlib, is afraid an all-out offensive against them would drive a massive destabilising wave of refugees north towards the Turkish border. So is the US, and Europe, where many of the refugees might end up. Senior officials, like Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford, are therefore urging Turkey and Russia to reach a compromise that would involve a more narrowly tailored counter-terrorism operation. Russian air power could ensure a Syrian victory, but Mr Heras, who is with the Center for a New American Security, argues Mr Trump’s warnings are part of an attempt across the administration to try to strengthen Turkey’s hand.” https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-45444088 …. I hope that helps, you can try searching yourself but I suggest you use another search engine other than google or bing, and for me trying to pump in a direct quote gave me absolutely nothing, I had to use obscure articles to find the 3 results I did. It also helps explain why the SAA hasn’t opened up several battlefronts or escalated hostilities disproportionately, Pompeo and Dunford [the US/Trump] and the UN are getting their more narrowly tailored counter-terrorism operation they wanted, in other words a green light from them so long as Assad/Russia don’t push the boundaries.

roland

Don’t push the boundaries I don’t think America is in a position to say that as it is them that is pushing the boundaries

jorge

Good article.

Assad must stay

Haha yea invite him, he may want to come, but whether trumps handlers allow him to is a different story

Charles Homer

As though America and its military were not spread out fighting conflicts on several fronts, this article shows that Washington is not yet finished with its mission in Syria:

https://viableopposition.blogspot.com/2019/12/the-future-of-syria-gray-zone.html

The United States simply cannot spread its message of American-style democracy to enough nations around the world.

cynic

That’s naughty Vlad. Why would you want to get Trump within reach of people who might want a quick word with him about the death of Solomeini?

bob

Because he’s obviously got a death wish and would like to start ww3

verner

just looking out for the gang who would like to earn the 80m$ bounty on trump’s head,

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Because he wants the people who might want a quick word with him about the death of Solomeini, to be very worried about Trump coming to Syria, Putin’s not being naughty, he’s giving the Iranians a stern warning, Syria will be controlled by Syria and Russia, not by Iran and Turkey. Clever people never make stupid jokes about important matters, they send important messages, NO ONE WAS JOKING. But that doesn’t mean Putin or Assad literally want the US to come to Syria, they just want the Iranians and Turks to know it’s a possibility, a bit of good old fashioned blackmail.

Azriel Herskowitz

America will never allow Iran to shoot down another civilian passenger plane. POTUS made this clear!

good american

Why? Is he afraid that Iran will eclipse America’s success rate in that, too?

verner

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Hi Mustafa how’s it going, I just thought I’d remind you of something,

“On July 3, 1988, as the Iran-Iraq war was winding down, US and Iranian ships were involved in some skirmishes in the Persian Gulf. An Airbus A300 took off from a nearby airport, one which was used for both military and civilian purposes. An American cruiser, the USS Vincennes, mistook the plane for an F-14, an American fighter plane that we had sold to Iran before the 1979 revolution, and launched two missiles, downing the plane and killing everyone on board.”

Didn’t you also say a few weeks ago that the US would retaliate militarily if the Iranians dared to attack them in any way, well the Iranians did attack them but the US didn’t retaliate, so I hope you’re not still waiting for a counterstrike, sanctions are Donalds only answer to the Iranians. I don’t know how you do it Mustafa, but you’ve got quite a few people believing you’re actually Jewish, they have no idea that you’re really Turkish.

occupybacon

Missleading title. Assad jokingly sugested Trump should visit Syria, Putin just says go ahead.

verner

sure invite him and then drone bomb him into oblivion and if assad doesn’t do it there is bound to be a handful of professional guys prepared to earn the 80m$ bounty on trump’s head, most likely designed to tempt melania to do the deed. after all the 176 dead from the downed ukrainian airliner lies firmly at the feet of trump so he’s just another mass murderer in the annals of history and in the disunited states of A he would be served a cocktail of toxic fluids shot right up the arm, now he’ll be on lit de parade and missed by a few and never missed by a vast majority of the world’s population.

Putin is quite remarkable. And there is something prophetic in what he said. But Trump has his head right up the arse of his Sabbatean / Frankist handlers. Also, why would an honourable man like Assad contaminate himself and his country in that way?

Willing Conscience (The Truths

“why would an honourable man like Assad contaminate himself and his country in that way?”

For exactly the same reason he accepted the new amended version of UN resolution 2254, and he accepted that deal the very same day the UN proposed it, quicker than greased lightning. That deal was the lesser of 2 evils so Assad had no choice but to accept it, but a new Syrian/US relationship of any type, would by default mean a fraturing of the Shia Crescent, Iran, Iraq, and Syria, which obviously would mean Iran’s presence in Syria would be threatened. Putin won’t mind at all if the Iranians are excluded from Syrian affairs, he’s upset they’ve gained so much power there already, so his remarks are designed specifically to have a special meaning for the Iranians, and so are Assad’s, they didn’t just happen just by accident spontaneously, 2 very clever men never do that, especially when they know just how much those remarks will annoy the Iranians, even if spoken in jest. Messages are being sent with those words, or perhaps blackmail is a better word to use.

LOL. Why wouldn’t Trump accept? Tell him its in the spirit of deescalation. Am sure his conscience wont stop him from accepting the invite.

Putin is a very talented and smart statesman. In fact, I think there is currently no other statesman at his level. Assad is also very smart. Rapprochement between Syria and the United States is a game changer.

So love the humour and wit of President Putin. Remember when he suggested to President Assad to tell Kerry he would give up the Chemical Weapons, after Kerry stated the only way they would withdraw from Syria, is if they got rid of their chemical weapons?

I used to think this could be a game changer as Trump is easily swayed by the last person he talks to, case in point Kim Jung-un and even the summits he’s had w/Putin but the problem is that he goes back to the U.S., gets accused by the U.S. of being a traitor and looking ‘weak’ (the one insult that gets to him) and his court of Neocon jackals poisons his mind again.

Sure, can’t hurt, as long as Assad doesn’t actually sign an agreement that will hurt Syria. The only downside is that it puts Syria back in the cross sites of the raving lunatic Neocons again. Currently, they are just a back burner project.
