Putin & Trump Hold First Phone Call to Discuss Syria, US-Russian Relations

US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held their first telephone call on November 14. They discussed the crisis in Syria and agreed to improve the US-Russian relations.

The Kremlin said in a statement published on its website that the two leaders agreed that they share a common view on “uniting efforts in the fight with the common enemy number one – international terrorism and extremism” and discussed ways to settle the Syria crisis.

Trump and Putin paid attention to the importance of establishing a stable basis for bilateral relations by developing trade and economic ties between Russia and the US emphasized a need of “constructive cooperation.” Finally, they agreed to keep in contact by telephone and have discussed the idea of meeting in person.

Trump’s team has issued a statement on the phonecall saying Putin congratulated Trump on his election victory.

The statement says that Trump is “very much looking forward to having a strong and enduring relationship with Russia and the people of Russia.”

“The Kremlin said in a statement published on its website that the two leaders agreed that they share a common view on “uniting efforts in the fight with the common enemy number one – international terrorism and extremism” and discussed ways to settle the Syria crisis. Trump and Putin paid attention to the importance of establishing a stable basis for bilateral relations by developing trade and economic ties between Russia and the US emphasized a need of “constructive cooperation.”

President-elect Donald Trump ran and won on the basis of trying to do improve the economic well-being for the American middle-class. He stressed four concepts: Emigration control, trade with tariffs (anti-Globalization), accepting a multi-polar world with no terrorists, and infrastructure funding. He believes he can counter the negative effects of changing from the currently Globalist approach to a trade-with-tariffs by increasing overall trade with everyone, including Russia. As terrorism is bad for trade the jihadist terrorists need to go away.

Based on the above statement, Trump correctly realizes that the neoconservative/liberal hawk form of American Exceptionalism is damaging America economically and that Russia, etc. are not a threat and is willing to play by the rules. Who knows if he thinks geopolitically, his primary goal is to trade.

I believe President Trump will work with the Russians to destroy both Al-Qaeda and ISIS and does not care about the removal of President Al-Assad. He does not want to stay as there is no economic benefit in doing so. President-elect Trump wants to redefine our national interests.

He is not an American Exceptionalist in the vein that has defined American foreign policy since the mid-90s with it’s paranoid fear of Russia and China, it’s constant use of “regime”change”, and support of it’s allies who did not wanting any form of pan-Arabism. First and foremost he is a business man wanting to make a deal. We shall see very soon.

We should keep in mind that his work is not gonna be easy, even with the congress majority having been taken by the republicans. It’s a situation kinda similar to when Obama came in office in 2008, the democrats themselves blocked the big part of his efforts to introduce laws which were seen as socialist. The problems Obama faced though, were mostly of internal significance, as most democrats (and all republicans) could not cope with his ideas about welfare issues. Trump instead, has its “most original” ideas in foreign politics, an area where US presidents seem to be a little more independent from the congress. The opposition he faces though, comes from the most powerful lobbies, in particular the jewish one, which have dominated US foreign agendas since basically the early 60ies.

SF ; the photo shop of Trump and Putin is too likely to be “miss-interpreted” , by the many who would not like to see them get along well together , please remove or replace. This is a much too important a moment in time , for things to be sabotaged by miss timed humor .
