Raytheon and Rafael To Produce Iron Dome Missile Defence System In The US

The Iron Dome missile defence system

US-based Raytheon Technologies and Israeli-based Rafael Advanced Defense Systems have formed a joint venture to build the Iron Dome missile defence system in the United States, the companies announced on August 3.

Under the name Raytheon Rafael Area Protection Systems, the partnership is being set up to build a first-ever Iron Dome “all-up-round” facility in the US. The facility will build Iron Dome systems, the Tamir interceptor and launcher, and the SkyHunter missile (the US version of Tamir), according to a statement issued by Rafael.

Tamir and SkyHunter are capable of intercepting cruise missiles, unmanned aircraft, rockets, artillery, mortars and other threats.

The companies expect to finalize the location where the system will be produced before the end of the year, the statement said.

“This will be the first Iron Dome all-up-round facility outside of Israel, and it will help the U.S. Department of Defense and allies across the globe obtain the system for defense of their service members and critical infrastructure,” according to Sam Deneke, vice president of Raytheon Missiles & Defense’s land warfare and air defense business.

Rafael and Raytheon have had a long partnership developing and manufacturing Iron Dome. The system is widely fielded in Israel and, according to Rafael, is “the world’s most-used system with more than 2,500 operational intercepts and a success rate exceeding 90 percent.”

The US Army has chosen Iron Dome as an interim capability to counter cruise missiles while it continues to develop a future Indirect Fires Protection Capability, or IFPC, to counter threats from cruise missiles as well as enemy drones, rockets, artillery and mortars. Congress directed the service buy two batteries to cover urgent cruise missile defence gaps, and another set of two batteries if the Army didn’t come up with a way forward for its enduring IFPC.

While the Army has said it will not buy all-up Iron Dome systems as part of the IFPC program, officials developing the capability are looking at the possibility of incorporating parts of Iron Dome in the final solution.

The Army plans to field the two Iron Dome batteries it has already purchased by the end of the year, but it will still take time to train troops on the system before deployment. Some lawmakers are urging the Army to rapidly deploy the systems to the Middle East, arguing US and coalition forces there need the protection from Iran and its proxies.

In an analysis conducted by the Army, it was concluded the Iron Dome launcher and the Tamir interceptor’s performances are “highly reliant” on their own battle management systems and multimission radars. The analysis also determined that the launcher and interceptor would be a viable option for an enduring IFPC solution as long as it worked on the Army’s future Integrated Air-and-Missile Defense Battle Command System, or IBCS, which is under development, according to a report sent to Congress earlier this year.

But General Mike Murray, the head of Army Futures Command, which is in charge of the service’s modernization efforts, testified before the House Armed Services Committee earlier this year that the Army has struggled to integrate Iron Dome into its IBCS system, mostly because the Israeli government has refused to provide critical source code needed for the integration.

The Tamir interceptor’s performance data proves its effectiveness when used within the Iron Dome system, but since data is lacking, it’s uncertain how well it would perform when linked through IBCS to the Sentinel radar, which is used to alert air defence weapons of threats, the report noted.

The Army will conduct a ‘shoot-off’ of the best available options for integration into an enduring IFPC solution in the third quarter of fiscal 2021. The US Marine Corps is also evaluating the system. LINK

The ‘shoot-off’ will evaluate the best options for a future indirect fires protection capability to defend against rockets, artillery and mortars as well as cruise missile and drones, according to a report sent to Congress and obtained by Defense News.

The shoot-off that will take place at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, is fashioned much in the same way the Army recently conducted its “sense-off” to choose a new air and missile defence radar that will replace the sensor in the Army’s current Patriot system, Brig. Gen. Brian Gibson, who is in charge of the Army’s air and missile defence modernization effort, told Defense News in a March 9 interview.

The Army has been trying to formulate its enduring Indirect Fires Protection Capability Increment 2 (IFPC Inc 2) system for several years. The intention for IFPC is to protect critical fixed or semi-fixed assets and is intended to be a more mobile solution than one that would suffice at a forward operating base, Gibson stated, and it will fill in gaps between tactical short-range air defence and strategic air and missile defence such as the Patriot and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence System. US and Israel are pushing the world into abyss with warmongering and terrorism.

Free man

This is a defense system. LOL.

Sethy

funny since US paid almost 100% for the development of the iron dome. now wants to buy it

Free man

Why not ? Israelis are developing weapons systems in a much more efficient and cost-effective way than Americans .

Sethy

did you miss my point? Israeli weapons are made via US taxpayers and joint US military industrial cooperation. Can’t do it on their own.

Антон С

It’s a mystery of 21st century. The same as giant spendings of Pentagon with such not giant effect.

HiaNd

Giant Pentagon pockets are answer to your “mystery”

Антон С

“Deep state” with deep pockets, he-he.

HiaNd

And even deeper asshole where CIA, FBI, Clinton’s, Obamas, Bush, CFR, Bilderberg, Wall Street, Rothchilds,Rockefeller’s, and endless list of bankers, MiC etc. and many others are hiding

HiaNd

In the hands of AGGRESSOR there is no such thing as “defensive weapons”!

You mean “defense” against Palestinian response on Israeli aggression, killing of their civilians or bombing of Gaza and similar?!

P.S. I thought you are slightly better, more moderate, than Iron -ZION idiot…I was wrong.

Антон С

Occupy some arab country, place AA there and call it defensive.)

Free man

Could be. But once you have no casualties you are not obligated to respond. Such systems reduce / prevent wars.

HiaNd

Like killing people “prevents” them from being upset or protesting?

You double faced sleazy peace of S H I T !

Антон С

“Such systems reduce / prevent wars.”

It’s AA system of close/short range (up to 10/30 km). Such weapon can’t prevent war, because a rival should strike from close distance, i.e. on your own territory. Even medium-range (up to 100 km) systems are not strategic.

Free man

I prefer that the US buy defense systems rather than attack systems . It is better for the United States not be involved in further unnecessary wars.

Антон С

They can buy any legal product, it’s normal. We are discussing a bit different thing – ability or inability to create similar system by own industry.

Potato Man

Useless shi& like the goys LMFAO, if groups in Gaza can still hit Israel with their homemade rockets who would buy this shit systems? It is another way that goys trying to loot US and good on them to sell shi^. “This is a defense system” HAhahhahaha good one clown.

Paul

After beirut then Tehran then islamabad then Beijing.Thank you USA :D

Ivan Freely

Delusional.

Sethy

Too much hydroxychloroquine for this retard ^

Thank Christ, there is a real God,after all was said yet never done:

johnny rotten

They sell trash to each other for the sole purpose of stealing money from American taxpayers.

Ivan Freely

ROFL I guess the Pentagon finally admitting Raytheon’s MIM-104 Patriots don’t work.

HiaNd

Yes it is indirectly admitting that….but still Patriot systems like S-400 are more specialized against the aircraft even though they can be used against missiles also. Bottom line is that they don’t believe of being capable to do better systems than Israel, thus having cooperation with them. Which is absurd comparing how long experience do they have in the field comparing to Israel

Which removes them down from being any kind of serious competition to the Russian systems

JIMI JAMES

Pretty much sums up the true state of the fake, phoney and false cia bossed corporations (sic)

HiaNd

Raytheon just showed to the world that Patriot systems they produce are crap

And they are only confirming now (with this accepting of Israeli system) that they are NOT CAPABLE of producing decent anti aircraft system let alone compete with Russian S-400, S-500 and other AA and anti missile sysytems.

Антон С

“Iron dome” closer to “Panzer” and “Tor” than S-400 and “Patriot”

HiaNd

I know that Anton (still Panzer and Tor are more advanced short range systems)

I was talking about Raytheon’s capability to make competition to major Russian systems like S-300V4, S-350 and S-400 and now S-500. Making competition is short range systems is of little strategic importance. But even in short range they are far behind. To shoot down primitive Palestinian rocket is the simplest task there is.

HiaNd

Iron dome is crappy system used against ordinary banal multiple launcher Palestinian makeshift rockets. Americans are getting worse every day…

Sethy

Oh trust me it’s saved many lives. A very effective and accurate system, even though its had rare mishaps. But the world wouldn’t need the Iron dome if some Europeans never colonized Palestine in the first place.

HiaNd

Of course it is “very effective and accurate system” if they can achieve 90% rate. But it is against the worst of the worst – the most primitive rockets. Iron Dome doesn’t represent much against more advanced rockets that are much faster and capable of changing trajectory, have capability of flying much higher or much lower then Palestinian. If hitting missiles is easy many countries would make those systems but in reality only few are capable of making them… And among those few Russian systems are the best by far.

Антон С

Yes, it’s hard to call something made out of a water pipe a rocket. So I would call it a reactive shell. The system can be simply overloaded by launching more shells, than it could intercept. As HAMAS did with start of 500 shells at the same time. One missile cost 50 thousand dollars. One pipe with gunpowder – 500 dollars.

HiaNd

“One pipe with gunpowder – 500 dollars.”

I’m sure that in Palestine costs even less than that…500 is serious money in Palestine…

For them 500$ is like for Jews 50 000$

Антон С

I took the biggest price. It could cost 200-300, depending at size of pipe. There are several models of reactive shells as I know.

JIMI JAMES

$500,000 according to the cocksuker from a news paper in ARSESTRAYLIA, under soros/turnbull/isis/kiddie headchopper/needs young blood, strategic dolla$!

HiaNd

So Iron dome should be called “Water Pipe Prevention” system?

Антон С

Indeed. One battery can defend 150 square kilometers against shells (mortar mines, flying pipes, small UAVs), which flies from 4 up to 70 km. It’s small, but low-speed target. Circle’s square formula is S=πR². So radius of ID ~7km. Bit more than MANPADS.

HiaNd

Pardon my curiosity, are you in military? You sound like someone who knows what he is talking about when you talk about those things.

Антон С

Open sources information, nothing special.

<>

I hope it serves our American friends well, if it can save their lives in Iraq or Afghanistan then it is worth every penny. Goodluck friends.

Sethy

I agree that they should be protected. But American soldiers shouldn’t be in Iraq or Afghanistan or Syria. They should be protecting ACTUAL interests of the American People, not foreign ones :)

JIMI JAMES

So erm drugfkd cia/soros muppets get ye free drugs? Beseeched THE WHORE OF BABYLON$!

Potato Man

People in Gaza still can make rockets and it would still hit Israel LMFAO. It is just another aid for Israel from US and nothing more.

JIMI JAMES

But they can’t,too many p00fs in their ranks, all they could do is fear about 5g yet remain subsonic, utterly pathedic dangerous corporations whom in the end guarrantee to fail in their wake,fk em off!
