Several militant groups based in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib launched on November 27 a large-scale offensive against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the direction of the western Aleppo countryside.
The offensive, codenamed Operation Deterrence of Aggression, began in the early morning under the command of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the de-facto ruler of Greater Idlib.
In the first few hours of the offensive, the militants took the SAA by surprise and managed to advance several kilometers, relying mainly on suicide attackers. By the afternoon, the towns of Anjara, Ajil, Sheikh Aqil, Bala, Hairdrakal, Qubtan al-Jabal, Salloum, al-Maari Association, al-Qasimiyah and Hawr had reportedly fallen into the hands of HTS and its allies.
The militants took heavy losses while advancing as a result of SAA artillery strikes as well as airstrikes by both the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Arab Air Force.
This was the first time Syrian warplanes had bombed targets in Greater Idlib since Russia and Turkey brokered a ceasefire in the region on March 5 of 2020. The HTS-led offensive constitutes the most serious violation of the ceasefire to date.
The SAA also took some losses, with Syrian pro-opposition media reporting the capture of as many as five troops and the destruction of at least one main battle tank.
Over the last few months, several reports talked about a plan by HTS and its allies to launch a large-scale offensive against the SAA in order to take advantage of the distraction caused by the ongoing Israeli war on both the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
In addition, Russian intelligence warned recently that the secret services of the Kiev regime were actively providing support to militants in Greater Idlib.
The SAA took precautions. However, this was not apparently enough. The battle in the western Aleppo countryside will likely go on for weeks, if not months. The militants are currently just ten kilometers away from Aleppo city, thus the SAA and its allies will have to counter-attack.

russia has again failed to protect its ally ass-ad…heheheh
failing at every war and growing older as everyone you supported failed and died under assad and putin left you mentally scarred. it is sad
why russia and assad are bad to fight ?
bad at fight? i want to try whatever you smoke just for curiosity
bro saa have 200.000 soldiers where are they ?
this war will never end .. :( saa and russia are like amateurs !
and what about nato?…taliban takes kabul in an offensive and nato fled
that’s what happens when you get into “deals” with the nato rats, which if it serves as a lesson for the war with the nazis, any stupid agreement will be broken.
hopefully russia will see the need for assad to take idlib now. syria should plan an offensive to push everything out and kill the turks if they are still there
and obviously all this is a coincidence. these fighters for freedom and democracy woke up just now when russia is under the heaviest pressure on the western front. nevermind, fab and odab will rain down soon and western media will comfort us saying that russia will soon run out of bombs. for the past 30 months didn’t happen, but tomorrow…….
putin must squeeze the most out of this crisis, take the opportunity & teach the psionist sponsored qaeda-hts terrorist & their west masters, a lesson about russian firepower. russia should do like israel, warn civilians to leave areas before both russia & assad unleash massive strikes on hts terrorists using missiles, gliding bombs, hypersonics, rockets, artillery, thermobarics, barrel, cluster, phosphorus bombs & all kinds of landmines. if israel does why cant russia
but many syrians like fsa and hts
and i like a lot of ukrainians but not those who work for the empire of evil.
okay so hate you fsa and hts more than jews ?
i hate hypocrites who think the rules don’t apply to them but are quick point fingers.
but jews and fsa are same no good people
according to reddit, qaeda-hts terrorists captured a russian soldier. if true the british terrorist sponsors got lucky and can now exchange their captured war criminal mercenary for the russian soldier with just a simple call to their qaeda-hts proxies.
i was trying to get some sleep and now this sheet happens. coño man, i picked the wrong week to quit perico.
the islamists are directed by western intelligence and satellites to the weakest spots in syrian defense🤫
send the invincible and dreaded tiger forces, kadyrovites, and may be some north koreans too and this terrorist incursion will be over faster than zelenskyy’s kursk fiasco.
250k saa army with russian air support unable to defend against 30k idlib terrorists? as i sad long ago and many times, the idlib cancer must be burned to the ground.
