On August 12, a large blast rocked the Conoco gas plant in the eastern countryside of Syria’s Deir Ezzor where the United States maintains a base.
Syrian news sources reported that the blast was a result of a rocket attack that targeted the U.S.-led coalition base. Some of the sources said that the alleged attack resulted in casualties. However, the coalition is yet to confirm or deny these claims.
The alleged attack on Conoco base came just two days after a blast was heard near a helicopter base of the coalition located within a large gas and an oil field near the town of al-Shaddadi in the southern al-Hasakah countryside.
Back then, Sputnik reported that the blast emanated from a large ammunition depot of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces near al-Shaddadi. However, the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a pro-opposition monitoring group, said that the blast was a result of an exercise by the U.S.-led coalition.
Tensions has been mounting in Syria’s northeastern region for the last two months with the U.S.-led coalition and its proxies amassing their forces along the contact line with government-held areas in Deir Ezzor.
Several recent reports in Western media talked about an alleged plot by Iranian-backed forces to renew attacks against coalition bases in northeastern Syria in cooperation with the Syrian intelligence.
If the attack on Conoco is confirmed, the U.S. will likely hold the Syrian government responsible and attack Iranian-backed forces in Deir Ezzor. This could lead to a dangerous confrontation.

hace rato que siria junto con las fuerzas iraníes que apoyan al gobierno deberían atacar las plantas de gas y de almacenamientos de combustibles que la coalición junto con sdf mantienen ocupada y robando petróleo y combustibles que son del pueblo sirio. es por ello que estos ataques a las bases extranjeras en territorio sirio deben hacerse habitual destruyendo toda la infraestructura de plantas de gas y petróleo, para que los ocupantes no sigan robando los recursos del pueblo sirio.
