Three soldiers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) were killed on May 23, when a rocket attack targeted their post in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.

The post, which is located near the town of al-Fatatoua‏ in southern Idlib, was targeted by the al-Fateh al-Mubeen Operations Room. The operations room is led by al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a number of Syrian soldiers were also injured as a result of the rocket attack.

Following the attack, militants’ positions in southern Idlib were shelled by the Syrian artillery. Nevertheless, the SAA is yet to respond in a meaningful manner.

HTS and its allies in the al-Fateh al-Mubeen Operations Room violate the ceasefire agreement, which was brokered by Russia and Turkey last year, on a regular basis. Turkish forces in Greater Idlib are doing nothing to stop these provocation.

While the chances of a serious military confrontation in Greater Idlib are slim, the region may soon experience a limited escalation as a result of the repeated ceasefire violations.
