On September 10, another rocket strike hit Baghdad International Airport in the western outskirt of the Iraqi capital, according to the Iraqi Security Media Cell.
“A Katyusha rocket landed at Baghdad International Airport without causing any losses,” the Security Media Cell said in a statement.
According to the Security Media Cell’s statement, the rocket was launched from the district of al-Furat, which is located a few meters away from the airport’s eastern section.
Sabereen News, a Telegram channel close to Shiite armed groups, claimed that two rockets had hit the military section of Baghdad International Airport. According to the channel, the rocket hit the army post office in the U.S.-held part, known as “Victoria Base.”
Four days ago, a similar rocket strike hit Baghdad International Airport. The strike reportedly targeted the headquarters of British security service company G4S, which is responsible for the security of the airport.
Iraqi Shiite armed groups are allegedly behind the attacks on Baghdad International Airport and other Iraqi installations hosting U.S. troops. These groups vowed to expel U.S. troops from the country after the assassination of Quds Force Commander Maj. Gen. Qassim Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of the Popular Mobilization Units, earlier this year.
