Rockets Hit U.S. Base In Northeastern Syria Amid Fighting In Gaza

On December 1 afternoon, a salvo of rockets hit a base of the United States military near the town of al-Shaddadi in the northeastern Syria governorate of al-Hasakah, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and several other news sources.

The London-based monitoring group didn’t report any casualties or material losses. However, it said that the rockets were likely fired from Iraqi territory by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI).

The IRI, a coalition of Iranian-backed armed factions, is yet to claim responsibility for the attack, which came hours after a temporary ceasefire between Israel and the Hamas Movement in the Palestinian Gaza Strip came to an end.

At least 74 attacks targeted U.S. forces in Syria and Iraq since October 17, when the first occurred in the wake of the Israeli war on Gaza. The IRI was behind most of the attacks, which lightly wounded more than 50 American troops. The U.S. responded over the last month with several strikes against targets in Syria and Iraq. At least nine Iraqi fighters were killed.

After the start of the temporary ceasefire in Gaza on November 24, the IRI announced a “reduction” in operations against U.S. forces.

An attack with a single rocket targeted the Conoco gas plant base in the eastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor on November 29. However, the IRI didn’t claim responsibility.

In a statement released on November 30, the last day of the ceasefire in Gaza, the IRI warned that it was ready to escalate operations against the U.S. inside and outside Iraq if Israel resumed its war on the Strip.

The al-Shaddadi rocket attack was likely be the first in a new wave of attacks against U.S. forces in Syria and Iraq. The aim of these attacks is apparently to pressure Washington over its unconditional political and military support for the Israel war effort.

oil what else? “trump told them take the oil!” that’s why the us is in syrian territory illegally!

Dstroj

rhetorical questions, bomber. oil is only one externally exemplified cause. what follows is in question. see the balkan wars for further instruction.

Boycott usa the world's bully

tighten the pressure on assad. on top of sanctions, this also deprives syria of its own resources, by occupying the wheat growing land and where the oil and gas is.

Cromwell

correct, but it’s one area where russia could hit back, they should be backing a full scale assault on the area and backing it up with airpower, this shit has gone on far too long, also iran has the power to annihilatethose bases with ballistic missiles like they did with al asad in iraq.
