US ICBMs are relics of the late sixties and early seventies, unsuitable for a first strike capability, the MX missiles that was far more capable was decommissioned. The CEP of the Minuteman missiles are dubious and uncertain, Sarmat’s MIRVS or hypersonic glide vehicles are going to have a CEP of 10-20 meters, while its warheads are twice as powerful than the Minuteman warheads.

The state of US ICBMs is synonymous to the state of their conventional arsenal, while the seventies were fruitful and creative from the standpoint of weapons development, the advantages these weapons presented, made US reliant and ambivalent to future threats. The demise of the Soviet Union along with a number of wars fought against third world countries gave US a false sense of security and weapons capabilities. Pentagon R&D was wasted on exotic ideas that deviated from common sense and practicality and over emphasized the fascination with the latest technological concepts. Today, the weapons developed during the seventies are reaching a point of obsolescence and significant wear and tear, while the weapons that were the byproduct of fascination of exotic technological concepts are show cased as some great weapon system, without any tangible proof against a capable enemy.
