Russia’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) has released a comment regarding the recent reports that 50 diplomats from the US State Department signed an internal memorandum urging President Barack Obama to use force against the Syrian government of President Bashar Al-Assad.

SouthFront translates the statement from Russian, posted on the Russian MoD’s official Facebook account:

Russia’s Ministry of Defense comments on information released by the American newspapers – the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal – about an alleged memorandum, signed by 50 US State Department officials, which urges the start of bombings of the government forces in Syria.

“If these reports include at least a partial element of truth and if such decisions could be made in the US State Department by a vote of the “labour collective”, this gives rise to concern to any intelligent person.

And the main question is: who will be responsible for these bombings? A majority of the US State Department’s “labour collective”?

Or we will look at a Hollywood smile again, as was the case in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya?”

Earlier, American newspapers – the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal – released articles reporting that  50 US State Department officials signed an internal memorandum urging the start of bombings of the official Damascus military – they call this the only way to counter the Islamic State and achieve peace in Syria.
