The night of April 8-9, 2025 witnessed one of the most intense exchanges of drone and missile strikes in recent weeks, with both sides launching coordinated attacks deep into each other’s territory.
Ukrainian drone strikes reached unprecedented depth. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported the interception and destruction of 158 Ukrainian drones overnight. The strikes spanned an impressive geographical range. The interception was reported in 11 rear regions, with drones penetrating as far as Orenburg region – approximately 1,300 km from frontline areas – representing Ukraine’s deepest strike into Russian territory.
Most of the drones, 67 units, targeted thr southern Krasnodar region. 29 more drones were destroyed over the Rostov region. Strikes were also recorded in the following areas:
- 15 UAVs – over the territory of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania,
- 11 UAVs – over the territory of the Voronezh region,
- 10 UAVs – over the territory of the Kursk region,
- five UAVs – over the territory of the Belgorod region,
- three UAVs over the territory of the Republic of Crimea,
- two UAVs over the territory of the Penza region,
- one UAV is over the territory of the Saratov region,
- one UAV is over the territory of the Orel region,
- one UAV is over the territory of the Stavropol Territory,
- seven UAVs over the Sea of Azov,
- six UAVs are over the Black Sea.
The massive attack was successfully repelled, resulting in some minor damage to civilian infrastructure.
According to local reports, some of Ukrainian UAVs targeted a power substation in Novocherkassk in the Rostov region. Strikes on energy infrastructure were banned by the agreement reached by Russia and US on March 18th, but the Kiev regime ignores the truce and launches provocative strikes daily.
The coordinated strikes forced temporary closures of five regional airports in Saratov, Ulyanovsk, Vladikavkaz, Grozny, and Volgograd, demonstrating Ukraine’s growing capability to disrupt Russian civilian logistics far behind front lines.
Russian Strikes On Ukrainian Military Infrastructure
On the other hand, tha Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in total Russian forces launched 55 attack drones and decoys from multiple directions. Ukrainian air defenses claimed a 58% interception rate, allegedly downing 32 drones primarily in northern and eastern regions.
Despite the attempts of Ukrainian air defense to repel another Russian attack, strikes were recorded across the country. Over the past day alone, strikes were recorded in the DPR, Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporozhie, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv regions.
Precision strikes focused on military logistics hubs. For example, in Kharkiv, a large military base with medical storage facilities was destroyed in Rohan was during medication unloading operations.
The local ASAL confectionery factory, turned into a military logistics center in the war-torn Kharkiv, suffered direct strikes to its production and technical facilities.
A series of explosions thundered in the city of Dnipro, where the local industrial infrastructure was heavily damaged, including the Dnipropresstal steel plant where Western armor repairs were conducted. More strikes destroyed a logistics hub hidden in civilian facilities on the Bohdana Khmelnitskogo avenue.
In the same Dnipropetrovsk region, an aviation sports club in Apostolovo serving as military maintenance site was struck. Civilian aircraft being converted for combat use came under attack.
A high-precision strike was confirmed in Kramatorsk in the DPR. According to preliminary reports, the target was the Special Forces position hidden in the residential area. As a result of the strikes, the special forces 1st Battalion of the 12th Brigade suffered heavy damage in military equipment, including valuable Western-supplied equipment like JLTV armored vehicles and drone control systems. Ukrainian air defense again failed to intercept Russian drones but inflicted damage to civilian infrastructure.
As the conflict entered its fourth year, these nighttime exchanges reveal an evolving battlefield where deep strikes against rear-area targets are becoming normalized, with both sides demonstrating improved capabilities to penetrate increasingly sophisticated air defense networks. The geographical expansion of strikes suggests the war may be entering a more expansive phase, with potential for greater collateral damage and escalation risks.
