On the night of September 21, Russian and Ukrainian forces exchanged massive strikes in the rear areas. More than a hundred Ukrainian drones targeted Russian western regions, while Russian drones and missiles destroyed more targets throughout Ukraine.

According to the official reports by the Russian Ministry of Defense, Russian air defense intercepted and destroyed 101 Ukrainian UAV over eight Russian regions. The included:

  • 53 drones destroyed in the border Bryansk region;
  • 18 drones destroyed in the southern Krasnodar region;
  • 5 UAVs destroyed in the Kaluga region;
  • 3 drones destroyed in the Tver region;
  • 3 drones destroyed in the border Belgorod region;
  • 1 UAV in the Smolensk region;
  • 1 UAV in the border Kursk region;
  • 1 UAV destroyed in the Crimean peninsula;
  • 16 UAVs were destroyed over the waters of the Sea of Azov.

Judging by the locations of destroyed UAVs, the Ukrainian military attempted to attack the Crimean Bridge and Russian rear facilities. The attack on Crimea was successfully repelled by Russian forces; but some Russian military facilities were struck in the western Russian regions.

Local reports and Russian authorities confirmed that at least military warehouses came under Ukrainian attacks in the Krasnodar and Tver regions.

Ukrainian Kamikaze drones struck an ammunition depot located at a military base near the village of Kamenny in the Krasnodar region. Large explosions were filmed in the area.

Another target of Ukrainian strikes was the 23rd arsenal of the Main Rocket and Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation located near the town of Oktyabrsky in the Tver region. This is the second large arsenal struck near Toropets in the Kursk region this week. On September 18, Ukrainian strikes hit another large depot nearby. LINK

No other damage was reported in Russian regions as a result of the massive drone strikes.

In their turn, Russian forces launched combined attacks on Ukrainian rear facilities in different regions.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Russian forces struck a cargo ship with missiles and ammunition supplied to Kiev by Western countries.

Military sources shared footage of a destroyed military platform disguised as a cargo ship, which was carrying rockets for HIMARS MLRS and different ammunition. The Armed Forces of Ukraine reportedly have four such ”cargo ships” in service.

Military monitoring sources reported that Russian strikes were recorded in the area of Voznesensk in the Mykolaiv region, where the local military airfield was reportedly struck.

Another airfield reportedly came under attack in the Poltava region. Ukrainian military equipment and missiles were reportedly destroyed at the Mirgorod airfield.

A series of explosions thundered in the Kharkiv region. In the morning, the footage from the city of Kharkiv confirmed Russian strikes on another hotel probably used for accommodation of Ukrainian servicemen and foreign mercenaries.
