The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had refused a Russian request to withdraw its fighters from a section of the strategic M4 highway in northeastern Syria and hand it over to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), the al-Mayadeen TV reported on July 24, citing a source familiar with the issue.
The M4 is the spine of transportation in the northeastern region. The highway links Aleppo with Raqqa and al-Hasakah.
“Russian forces asked the SDF to evacuate a section of the international highway M4 near the town of Ain Issa [in the northern Raqqa countryside] and hand it over to the SAA,” the unnamed source said. “The SDF leadership rejected the Russian request, which led to tension in the area.”
Tensions between Russian forces and the SDF near the town of Ain Issa were indeed reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. According to the London-based monitoring group, SDF fighters besieged the Russian Military Police base in the area for around two hours.
At the time, a group of locals from Ain Issa were protesting in front of the base against the lack of any response by Russia to recent Turkish artillery and drone strikes.
The Russian request to the SDF was likely meant to prevent Turkey from using the group’s presence along the M4 as an excuse to launch a new military operation in Syria.
The Turkish military has been preparing to launch a new operation against the SDF since May. On the other hand, Moscow and Damascus have been making much efforts to prevent Ankara from going on with its military plans.
The SDF’s refusal shows that the group is still determined to keep its control over as much territory as possible despite the looming Turkish threat. The group appears to be more inclined to lose its territory to Turkey than to handed over to the SAA.

Turkey is a NATO member and anti-NATO at the same time. That’s why Turkey attacks NATO allies in Syria. YPG is a NATO ally.
Turkey is a bit of a loose cannon because of Erdogan and the failed coup, which he blames the USA for instigating. But the SDF are instruments of the USA (hence the capture of the East bank of Deir Ezzor to thwart Assad). US plans to topple Assad haven’t ended. US assets will be employed to whatever degree possible. The same as Ukraine. No armistice because this is US/Nato’s proxy war. (Americans don’t take to body bags).

Yes, Kurds are really stupid bunch and throughout their history they worked to their own misery and for others sake. In my research of European history I’ve spotted few other nations that did the same to their own detriment. One of such European nations are Croats who throughout their history had many pacts to their detriment and still do it. In such pacts these nations join to bid for others interests and never for their own and at the end of the day they pay heavy price for wrong choice they make. However, even after suffering for their choices they do it again as soon as they can. Some nations/peoples are simply incorrigible which sooner or later leads to their vanishing from the history.
Turkey, SDF, HTS, Israel or ISIS all just different eggs in the US Basket. They love to play many sides so that no matter what outcome they win.
It seems the Syrian Democratic Forces do not want Syrian democracy. This isn’t a surprise because the SDF couldn’t give a shit about Syria or its people, by the looks of things. The SDF care about their people and taking land for which they have no legitimate right from either Syria, Turkey, or Iraq.
They will then care about democracy and they will harp on to the UN when invaders come to take their already stolen land. Kinda like how the isreali apartheid regime does their land theft.
I think if Turkey, Russia and Syria were smart, they’d coordinate with the Iraqis and Iranians and smash these stupid, primitive, stubborn Kurds for once and for all. Destroy them, kill em, capture them, imprison them, and execute the radicals. These stupid Muslim fanatics, you cannot reason with them.
It’s time for the Iranians and The Party of God to finish the job in Syria using Russian air cover.
