Russia bans Soros Fund

This article originally appeared at IN4S translated by Stevo Marjanović exclusively for SouthFront

The Russian Prosecutor’s Office declared that Open Society Foundations and the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation, both belonging to the network of non-government organizations funded by American businessman George Soros, are undesirable.

As stated, their activity is a threat to security and constitutional order of Russia.

The decision was made at the initiative of the Federation Council of Russia to put these organizations into the so-called patriotic “stop-list”. This list was adopted by the upper house of Russia’s parliament in July.
There are 12 organizations in the “stop-list”, including seven from the United States, two from Poland and three from Ukraine, including the Soros Fund, MacArthur Fund, Freedom House, the World Congress of Ukrainians, the National Endowment for Democracy, the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the Charles Stewart Mott Fund and Education Fund.
This year in May Russia adopted a law that allows it to declare all foreign NGOs undesirable, if it is established that their activity in any way undermines the constitutional order or security of the country.
