During the exchange of strikes on the night of December 26, Russian forces used, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, one Iskander-M ballistic missile and 99 attack drones, 73 of which were shot down/suppressed. For their part, Russian forces announced the destruction of 77 Ukrainian UAVs, most of which were intercepted over the Volgograd and Rostov regions.

Russia aims to paralyze the strategically important railway line from Ukraine to Poland (the Kyiv-Kovel line). This was stated by Ukrainian military radio technology specialist Serhii Beskrestnov, known by the call sign “Flash.” He notes that attacks on this artery are following one after another: two days ago, the strike hit a train; the day before yesterday, a railway bridge; and last night, a locomotive depot. He predicts further strikes on objects of this line and calls for their protection.

Simultaneously, the Russian side announced the delivery to the front line of the first test batch of the newest heavy combat drones “Berdysh,” numbering about 100 units.

According to the manufacturer’s CEO, the drone, capable of carrying up to 20 kg of payload over a distance of up to 25 km, is modular and can be used for striking targets, mining, logistics, and reconnaissance. This is the beginning of the experimental operation of a new type of weapon for assault units. In turn, Ukrainian experts note that heavy drones, such as the “Baba Yaga,” have long been used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for similar tasks.

Strikes on Ukraine

Affected objects in Ukraine spanned several regions and infrastructure sectors. In the Odesa region, the main blow again targeted logistics and energy. A key bridge in the village of Maiaky was disabled, forcing authorities to continue setting up pontoon crossings.

It is reported that such crossings are much easier to disable even with single drone strikes, but they are also much easier to restore or deploy in a new location compared to repairing a full-fledged bridge. However, drivers note the questionable quality and safety of such crossings.

Ports in the region also came under attack; damage is reported to elevators, warehouses of civilian enterprises, as well as vessels under foreign flags. No fewer than 25 “Geran” (Geranium) drones attacked an energy facility in Izmail, causing a major fire.

In the Mykolaiv region, NASA satellites detected a fire at the “Temvod” electrical substation after a “Molniya” (Lightning) UAV strike.

The fire was assigned the highest, fifth category of complexity, and power outages were felt even in Kherson. A port terminal was also damaged, and a vessel under the Liberian flag was affected.

The Volyn region was struck at a critical infrastructure object, as reported by the head of the regional military administration. In Kovel, on the strategic railway line, tracks, a locomotive, and a freight car were damaged.

Furthermore, strikes were recorded in the Dnipropetrovsk region (use of “Iskander-M”), as well as in the Chernihiv region, Sloviansk, and Kramatorsk. The state company “Ukrenergo” warned that Russia is likely preparing a new massive attack on Ukraine’s energy system, with an interval of approximately 10 days.

Strikes on Russia

Strikes on objects in Russia on the night of December 24-25, according to official statements, were carried out primarily using drones. Russian air defense claimed the destruction of 77 Ukrainian UAVs over several regions, including Volgograd (34), Rostov (23), Kaluga (5) regions, Crimea (5), the Moscow region (3), and others. At the port in Temriuk, open flames were extinguished following an attack.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces officially confirmed a strike on an oil refinery in the Rostov region using Storm Shadow cruise missiles. The regional governor, Vasily Golubev, reported explosions in the territory of the city of Novoshakhtinsk, with no casualties.

Amid the ongoing exchange of strikes, Denmark plans to begin production of 122-mm rockets for Ukrainian Armed Forces multiple launch rocket systems in 2026. Production will be deployed at the former NATO airbase Vandel by the company SkyPro. It is planned to produce under license Serbian rockets with increased range to replenish the ammunition of Soviet-era BM-21 “Grad” systems and their European modifications. This project legalizes the supply scheme through third countries; production will be launched in the interests of Ukraine, similar to the production of solid rocket fuel for long-range missiles and drones.
