Russia’s Foreign Ministry and center for the reconciliation of conflicting parties in Syria commented on the recent allegations of chemical weapons usage in the town of Douma, located in the Syrian capital’s subrub of Eastern Ghouta.

On April 9, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov once again draw attention that the Russian military and the Syrian government had repeatedly warned that militants had been preparing provocations aimed at accusing Damascus of the use of chemical weapons.

“We already had a chance to comment on the current situation before this current situation became reality,” Lavrov said, according to the state-run news agency TASS. “Our servicemen staying in the Syrian Arab Republic, ‘on soil,’ repeatedly warned – and the Syrian government also said about it – that a serious provocation is being prepared, aimed at blaming Damascus for the use of a chemical poisoning agent against civilians.”

Russia’s OPCW Envoy Alexander Shulgin also recalled that Syrian had repeatedly informed the UN Security Council and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) of a possible chlorine gas provocation in Eastern Ghouta.

“The official Syrian representatives were transferring information to the UN Security Council and the OPCW and warning them that a provocation was being prepared with the use of chlorine. They took note of all this information but, unfortunately, efforts failed to avoid a recurrence of such a scenario,” Shulgin said, according to TV Channel One.

Meanwhile, the Russian center for the reconciliation of conflicting parties said that Syrian doctors in Douma have dismissed reports they are treating patients with symptoms of chemical poisoning.

“Syrian doctors in Douma have dismissed the rumors they had received patients suffering from chemical poisoning. In an interview to the media doctor Yaser Abdel Majid, of the city hospital, said that they had never received patients with chemical poisoning either last weekend or since the beginning of hostilities in Syria,” the center said in statement, according to TASS.

The center’s servicemembers questioned doctors and other personnel of Douma’s hospital. According to the center, the medics said that “all those who had received their medical aid had ordinary injuries, fractures and fragmentation and gunshot wounds.”

The White Helmets representatives at Porton Down have conclusively determined that Russian-manufactured Novichok-5 was used in the East Ghouta CW barrel bomb attack that killed thousands yesterday. The chemical barrel bomb landed directly inside the Tawba prison, and the only victims were the hostages imprisoned there. White Helmets rushed in to rescue survivors, but had to withdraw when the camcorder battery started running low. “We’ll risk our lives to return and save people – right after a quick recharge. It’s lithium-ion – these things are awesome, just like us!”
