Russia concerned with reports that Turkey shooting refugees on Syrian border

On Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and Supremacy of Law Konstantin Dolgov told to the Russian news agency TASS that Turkish border forces that shoot refugees on the border with Syria should be brought to justice if these reports are confirmed.

“We are seriously concerned about the information that appeared in the media on this matter,” Dolgov said. “If reports are confirmed, it will be necessary to conduct a thorough investigation, including possibly in the international format, to bring those guilty of such humanitarian crime to justice,” he added.

“This is among other flagrant violations of human rights that are permitted by Turkish authorities on the Turkish territory during the military operation against Kurds and on the territory of sovereign Syria,” the diplomat noted.

On March 31, the Times published an article where it shows that “Turkish border forces are shooting refugees dead as they flee the civil war in Syria.”

“Sixteen migrants, including three children, were killed by guards as they crossed into Turkey over the past four months, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring organization,” The Times added.

On March 29, it was reported one civilian was critically wounded when a Turkish sniper shot the unarmed young man in the head after he was seen walking near the border in Al-Qamishli.

According to Aljazeera, a senior Turkish official has denied reports that three Syrians who were trying to cross the border into Turkey were killed by Turkish border guards.

However, according to the controversial agreement between Turkey and EU signed at March 20, Ankara will be obliged to take back all refugees deported from Greece and EU will accept thousands of Syrian refugees directly from Turkey. The agreement also stated that Turkey will start accepting the illegal on March 20 and Turkey will start sending refugees into the EU from April 4. In return, Turkey will get 6 billion USD in two installments. To meet the EU demand, Turkey has chosen the bloody path to control the influx of war-torn Mideast refugees.
