The Russian military has deployed military helicopters and Pantsir-S air defense systems in northern Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry’s Zvezda TV reported on November 14. The report says that Mi-8 and Mi-35 helicopters and air-defense systems were deployed in the al-Qamishly airport area.
Russian Mi-8 and Mi-35 helicopters are currently involved in the patrols along the Turkish border in northeastern Syria. The goal of the patrols is to prevent a further escalation in the region.
Earlier reports appeared, that Russia may have been planning to turn the al-Qamishly airport into a military facility. The recent developments demonstrate that even if these particular reports were wrong, the Russians are already using the airprot for military purposes.
