Russia’s Scientific and Technical Center “Kornei” showcased on the sideline of the Unmanned Systems: Technologies of the Future forum, which opened its doors in Moscow on August 7, an unmanned ground vehicle especially designed to launch fiber-optic guided first-person view (FPV) multirotor suicide drones.
The vehicle, dubbed “Dronobus,” was especially designed to expand operational flexibility in contested electronic warfare environments.
According to Kornei, Dronobus integrates a software and hardware package that allows it to transport and launch drones without relying on traditional radio control. Instead, both the vehicle and the drones are managed through a fiber-optic cable, reducing susceptibility to jamming.
The vehicle can travel up to ten kilometers before launching its FPV drones, which can hit targets within a range of 15 kilometers. Photos shared by TASS indicate that the vehicle can carry at least two drones.
Dronobus can be also used to transport cargo weighing up to 150 kilograms. The vehicle is built for year-round operation. It can function in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +40°C.
“The robotic hardware and software complex ‘Dronobus’ is designed for the delivery and launch of unmanned aerial vehicles using fiber-optic communication or for the delivery of cargo weighing less than 150 kg,” the manufacturer’s statement, cited by TASS, said.
The concept of drone-carrying vehicles is not new, Dronobus is the first such vehicle to integrate fiber-optic guidance eliminating the issue of jamming.
Russia boosted the production of fiber-optic guided FPV drones over the past year, and is reported to be deploying hundreds each day against Kiev forces in the special military operation zone.
