Russia is ready for any scenario, but does not want a direct military clash with the United States, the country’s President Vladimir Putin told reporters on July 29.
“We are always ready for any scenario, but no one wants this, and on the initiative of the American side we once created a special mechanism to prevent these conflicts. Our heads of certain departments communicate directly with each other, have the opportunity to consult on any crisis situation. This shows that no one wants clashes,” Putin said.
The Russian president was answering a question about recent provocations by the U.S.-led coalition in Syria.
Since the start of this year, the aviation of the coalition has made 23 dangerous approaches to aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces in the skies over Syria, while drones have violated flight safety in the country 340 times, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The ministry’s Center for Reconciliation in Syria said on July 28 that a U.S. An MQ-9 drone had made a dangerous approach towards a Russian Su-34 fighter bomber over the country.
The U.S.-led coalition, who operates in Syria without the approval of the government, does not acknowledge these incidents and claims that Russia is the side violating flight safety protocols over the country.
Earlier this week, the Pentagon alleged that a Russian fighter jet hit the U.S. drone with a flare and “severely” damaged its propeller over Syria and the White House said that another fighter jet flew “dangerously close” to a second drone.
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on July 29 called on Russia to abide by the laws of the sky and cease “irresponsible behavior”.
“We call upon the Russian leadership to make sure that they issue guidance to their troops to abide by the laws of the sky and make sure that they cease this irresponsible behavior,” Austin said, when asked about the recent incidents in a news conference in Brisbane, Australia.
“We’ll continue to engage using the established channels to convey our concern and we’ll continue to engage senior leadership as appropriate. But, again, we will continue to operate, as we have always operated in the airspaces, and we will protect our interests and our resources,” he added.
A military confrontation between U.S. and Russian forces in Syria remains highly unlikely as both sides recognize the risks of such an escalation. However, the coalition’s uncoordinated operations over the country could eventually lead to a serious incident.

problem is it’s not a case of what putin wants, it’s a case of he may have no choice but to clash with the us and their trained attack dogs in syria, it’s one place russia could make the us gangsters pay in blood for ukraine.
well the solution is just simple. have syria declare a no fly zone over they sovereign territory and shoot down a few drones. if the americans retaliate, use some cluster bombs on their forces/bases and claim they have the right to use them for the defence of their country from an illegal invading force.
q. how can syria declare a no fly zone when it can’t enforce it? rus is there legally, but afraid to act. usa is there illegally & does as it pleases. sooner or later some country will act against the washington mafia or things will get worse. pity rus isn’t up to the task. iran maybe??

the yanks are too fond of money, food and the good life. they don’t mind thousands of ukr soldiers being killed/injured on the usa’s behalf, but if a handful of yanks returned in body bags the nation would be in uproar. with an election next year, 300m+ god fearing americans do not want senile biden to start ww3. usa bluffs worldwide, it’s expensive weapons unreliable, it’s soldiers uncommitted. it relies on on propaganda, criminality and the threat of nukes. its bluff needs to be called.
completely agree, sad to say, but an escalation that would bring 1 000 bodybags home to the us would help end the war faster than a rat up a drainpipe.
the only thing fueling this war is the absence of dead western soldiers on the ground : no western nation will tolerate human losses on the battlefield.
russia is not going to instigate a clash with the us, but is ready for it. such a clash would consume both countries, so its sensible for all to avoid. the us has no answer to russia. us needs the support of thirty countries just to try to hold russia in ukraine (and it can’t).
as cromwell already said, they might not want it, but the us is doing its best to start as many fires in as many places of strategic interest for russia, short of actually starting war. russia should not wait until the us has hypersonic weapons, because when they do, they wont hold back.
us is pumping itself out distracted by russia, while china becomes stronger and stronger. it’s this lack of focus that will destroy the us, with china delivering another huge problem for the us that will drag it down further. the us will be mortally wounded by two big cuts, then finished by a thousand, as others realise the us can’t cope. multiple paybacks will destroy the us. russia won’t make the first move here. teh us is climbing in their lobster pot voluntarily.
what does russia has from the fact that it expends it’s own resources and those of nato so that china wins? both sides are loosing and the winner does only care for himself.

too late for how many tousands? but better now then never if it is true. ukraine never had any chance to win this only to inflict pain on russia by throwing away their lives. i never understood why they did it in the first place. you need to play the long game if your enemy is a superpower and wait until they struggle or are busy with another fight. but the victor is still the us cause russia will have to permanently keep the ukrainians in check after this cause the hate will be eternal.
