Russia has established a center for receiving, relocating and accommodating refugees in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on July 18.
“Acting in coordination with the Syrian authorities, Russia has set up a center for receiving, relocating, accommodating refugees as part of international efforts to assist Syrian refugees in returning to their places of residence,” the defense ministry statement said, according to TASS.
“Information about Russia’s initiative aimed at resolving the issue of refugees’ return to their homes is being provided to relevant United Nations agencies, as well as to Russia’s embassies in 36 countries hosting the largest numbers of Syrian refugees.”
The Russian military added that the center will monitor the return of displaced persons and Syrian refugees from foreign countries to their homes. It will also be involved in humanitarian aid deliveries and will assist the Syrian government in restoring healthcare and human services.
The foreign and defense ministries of Russia have established a joint HQ at the National Defense Management Center in order to coordinate the center’s activities.
