Russia Experimented With "Swarm" Battle Formation Of Su-35 Jets, Led By Su-57 Fighter Jet

Russia carried out an experiment on the use of a “swarm” of fighter jets, TASS reported, citing its own unnamed sources.

According to the source, the experiment involved a swarm of Su-35 fighter jets, while the command and control aircraft was a Su-57 fighter jet.

Another defense source confirmed to TASS the nature of the tests and explained that in the battle formation, which the pilots call a flock or swarm, information is exchanged between fighters in real time: the information-control system of each aircraft automatically processes data from both its own sensors and sensors of the other aircraft.

Sources explained that the use of a “swarm” operating in a single information space, significantly increases the efficiency during combat missions.

It is unknown when and where the experiment took place.

As the leading Russian military expert, editor-in-chief of Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine Viktor Murakhovsky noted, such tests are important in terms of building a unified information system for the armed forces.

“Work on interaction in a general battle order (in a ”swarm”) is important. In the future, information from all aircraft sensors, as well as from air defense systems, from satellites, from ground-based equipment should come into a single system that will create a single information field for land, air and space. And in it, with the support of artificial intelligence, the distribution of military work will already take place, including for aviation,” the expert explained.

He added that similar work is being carried out by the United States of America, in particular for its F35 fighter jets.

In addition, Murakhovsky said, so far neither Russia nor the United States have been able to build such a unified information system for managing all types of troops due to difficulties in creating a single data format for different types and branches of the armed forces.

Assad must stay

are the su-35’s unmanned or ?

Lone Ranger

They are manned. What this means is that the Su-57 flew ahead, its stealthy and has longer range radars that are also more sensitive, it than distributes the info for the Su-35s that are following it from a distance. That way the Su-35s can stay out of the opponents missile range, especially since the AMRAAM has around half the range or less compared to Russian long range BVR missiles. Its nothing new. U.S. is experimenting with the same, F-22 or F-35s leading F-15s or Super Hornets. They claim they invented it, but its BS. Russia already used this tactic in the early 80s when Mig-31s led Su-27s and Mig-29s as an airborne center. Both sides could use AWACS type planes but they dont have that much better radar range, on the ofher hand they are slow and unarmed. An easy target for both sides. But if your jet can take over its duties, is armed, maneuverable and can do over Mach 2 than thats very practical and much safer than using an AWACS. Sorry for being lenghty…

occupybacon

Like in the WW2 when only the commander of a Soviet tank formation had radio transmission, unlike the Germans that had radio on each tank.

Lone Ranger

Who won at the Battle of Kursk again…? Aside from that your comparsion makes no sense.

occupybacon

Russia won but numerically they overwhelmed the Germans. In the sky USA would ovewhelm Russia. Keep in mind that USA lost in Vietnam ~2500 aircraft, South Nam lost 5000 given by USA while USSR lost in Afghanistan ~300 and was too much for them. And now USA has lots of drones with over 10 years experience in front of Russia.

Lone Ranger

Russia didnt pull out of Afghanistan due to losing 300 helos but due to economic troubles and ground losses. Russia has also advaned drones. And an extensive experience how to defeat them. Even Iran is capeble now to take out U.S. stealth drones like the RQ-170 or the Global Hawk. How many succesful drone attacks were in Syria against Russia? Zero?

occupybacon

Not every American drone is stealth tho or at least that global howk is not. But unlike those small toys Russia is trained to hunt over Latakia, American drones can fire from a distance, and that combining with swarming would be a nightmare for Russian pilots.

Lone Ranger

The Global Hawk is stealthy. Like I said if Iran can take out the best the U.S. has imagine what Russia can do. The range of the Hellfire missile is much shorter than tzbat of Russian SAMs. It would be a nightmare but for the U.S. Vietnam would repeat itself.

occupybacon

Global Hawk aint’t no stealthy, mate. And why should imagine what Russia can do, when i’ve already seen it? NATO fired over a hundred missiles over Latakia and Israel struk Iranian targets few hundred meters away from Russians.

Lone Ranger

Sure it is. U.S. airstrike was fake and coordibated with Russia. 120 cruise missiles fired and barely any damage… Russia and Israel have a non agression pact.

occupybacon

Where it says Global Hawk is stealthy? It doesn’t look like stealth at all.

Lone Ranger

It is, trust me. Its fully composite with RAM coating. Unfortunatelly for it radars are so sensitive nowdays that its not enough. Maybe the new RQ-180 will do better. Global Hawks are being phased out now after that fiasco, same as the F-117 was after the Yugo incident…

Tudor Miron

The only reason why Russia moved out of Afganistan was traitor Gorbachev. He didn’t stop there anyway.

Simon Ndiritu

in Europe, Asia (or middle east) Russia has hundreds of thousands of SAMS and AAA and won’t necessarily need Fighter jets to counter airborne US drones and jets. Also, the US will be stretched to mobilize a fraction of SAM’s and AAA that Russia has. Also, Russia will enjoy a wider range of SS-Ms or long range Air to Surface Missiles to strike ground targets without using fighters or fighter-bombers which would expose them to threat. Therefore, comparing aircraft that both sides have is faulty.

occupybacon

Have you seen how eficient are those SAMs against Israeli strikes in Syria?

Lone Ranger

Israel and Russia has a non agression pact. They wont fire on eachother.

occupybacon

I agree, Israel would whipe the floor with Russian bases if Russia would shot at them.

roland

Russia is bed with isreal it’s to do with the belt and road and they won’t let anything get in the way of that and some people are saying Iran is inn on it too so don’t hold your breath for an Iranian attack on isreal.

Swift Laggard II

why would Iran attack israel? you mind is deep fried in propaganda

roland

A while ago I stupidly had hope there were some brave men somewhere in this world and that someone was going to run the Jews into the sea but now I realise that it’s not going to happen.

Lone Ranger

That goes vice versa. Russia has weapons to do the same in Israel. But since 2million Russians are living in Israel +another 1million Americans they dont want that :)

Assad must stay

no thank you, that was very nice to read :))

cechas vodobenikov

f35=defective trash….perhaps the amerikans will courageously challenge the Haitian Air Force with their poorly trained pilots—if they forget to load up on meth they cannot shoot down a flying Iranian fast boat

occupybacon

Yes Ivan you have all the chances to survive when you fight the little pussy Americans, now go fight, soldier!

Peter Moy

Yes the US against the Haitian Air Force with their top secret Voodoo fighters would be a helluva sky brawl. Another good battle would be the US (without it’s usual lapdog coalition slaves and worms) against the political, economic, military super-duper-superpower MALLS alliance of Monaco. Andorra, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and San Marino reinforced by the Swiss Guards of Vatican City. That would be like World War III.

Dick Von Dast'Ard

Su-57 AWACS/BACN.

Exchange the Su-35’s for S-70 and the future of RuAF deep-strike is unfolded.

Tommy Jensen

We have F-85.

Dick Von Dast'Ard

Isn’t that a truck?

rightiswrong rightiswrong

The US have the F-A, or F*** All aircraft.

Meaning they don’t care how useless it is, once they get their trillion dollar bonus for shifting them.

FlorianGeyer

Built by Boeing ? :)

Ivan Freely

Worse…Ford. ;p

Pave Way IV

OK, great idea and all. But do those probes on the front of the S-70 look like two little chicken feet sticking out to anyone else? Maybe it’s just me… I blame the drugs.

Tommy Jensen

Russia stealing our intellectual property again, our idea of swarm techniques strength by quantity… without paying a dime. Next they are crying because we defend our motherland with mini nukes from Poland.

Putin already stole US property of Crimea after we invested $5 billion bucks in the shithole. This continuing breach of World International Law cant go on and on without any consequences.

Lone Ranger

Hahaha

rightiswrong rightiswrong

You are the most sardonic commentator on here Tommy.

As if 5 billion ducks could pay for Crimea, lol.

Robert Ferrin

LOL….

FlorianGeyer

Lol

Mansouri

i think su57 is trash. It’s just a an su35 with a redesigned carcass/structure, just like t72 and t90. Might have radar improvements, but still the same. It’s more of a business game to sell the “new” aircraft.

Lone Ranger

Never go full retard…

Ivan Freely

Love the SU-57, such a mean looking bird. More so than the Chinese J-20 honestly.
