On March 28, Russia folated the first Project 636.3 submarine Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky for its Pacific Fleet at the Admiralty Shipyard in St. Petersburg.

“A contract for the construction of submarines for the Pacific Fleet was signed in September 2016 at the Army forum. In 2019, the submarine will be delivered to the Pacific Fleet,” Admiralty Shipyard CEO Alexander Buzakov stressed during the launch ceremony.

The Project 636.3 Varshavyanka is the third generation of Russian diesel-electric submarines. It develops a speed of up to 20 knots, has a sea endurance of 45 days and a crew of 50 men. The submarines of this class displace over 2,000t  in their surface position and about 4,000t under the water. They are armed with Kalibr cruise missiles.

A total of 6 such submarines will be built for the Pacific Fleet by 2022.

Why isn’t the propeller covered?

You can call me Al

It is a stealth cover.

Real Anti-Racist Action

Good point. I often think that Iran and Russia give just a little too much away with some of their public release photos. Every time Iran releases a new missile with new physical parameters these days, they should show only a photo of the top 1/5th of the missile. For the underground launched missiles, they should keep the outer physical parameters a total secret. We all know the US and Israel take those photos and run them through computer simulations to make decisions on their probable characteristics during flight. Of course I know that those simulations are not always right. But none the less it is giving information away. Russia should have released only a drone shot overhead of the Sub for public release. It is that top shot that will always be visible to the worlds satellites anyway when it is operating on the surface. And for that ceremony you are right, they should have covered the most important outer part of the sub, the propeller.

Maybe they wanted to be visible. For the reasons enumerated by @IndigenousJapethite:disqus.

I think it’s a plastic one – they’ll put on the real one after the ceremony! ;)

Its a fake, the real propeller gets attached later. Might not be the best idea to attach a classified part of the equipment on the outer hall of the sub during a parade.
