Rostec has supplied a new batch of Pantsir-S and Pantsir-SMD air defense systems to the Russian Defense Ministry, the state corporation’s press service announced on August 19.
“Rostec’s High-Precision Systems Holding has delivered to the Russian Defense Ministry another batch of Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile-and-gun systems, as well as Pantsir-SMD fixed-site anti-aircraft missile systems. The equipment underwent the required tests and was accepted by military acceptance officials,” the press service said in a statement.
The statement included remarks from an air defense unit commander from the Russian military’s Zapad Group of Forces with the call sign “Volk,” who praised the performance of the Pantsir-S.
“The unit received a new Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and gun system from the manufacturer. The system has shown itself as one of the most effective means of countering air targets. The personnel are very familiar with it — we’ve been operating such systems for several years now — so we quickly moved it to its deployment site, deployed it, and it has already been put on combat duty in the designated area,” he said.
Rostec noted that the Pantsir-S is used to protect military, administrative, and industrial facilities and areas from aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and precision-guided weapons, while the Pantsir-SMD is better equipped to repel massive enemy drone attacks.

Earlier this month, “The 233rd Week of the Special Military Operation,” a documentary film produced by Vladimir Solovyov for his series “Behind the Ribbon” aired on the Rossiya 24 channel, provided never-before-seen footage of one of the self-contained Pantsir-SMD systems deployed at towers in the Russian capital, Moscow.
Notably, the system was armed with a mix of 57E6-series short-range missiles and quad-packed TKB-1055 very-short-range interceptors.
The TKB-1055, introduced into service very recently, was especially designed to counter drones and has a stated maximum range of just over seven kilometers compared to the 57E6-E’s nearly 20 kilometers. The Pantsir-S can also be armed with the interceptor.
The delivery highlights the success of the Russian military-industrial complex in expanding production of air defense systems at a time when the West is struggling with a serious interceptor shortage.
The new systems are also expected to further enhance the lower tier of Russia’s air defense networker against increasing Ukrainian drone attacks.

i’m not too sure that would work because in blighty the political class is full of climate crazies who want to shut them down and keep them closed. the russian admin would be doing these maniacs a real favour. taking out their country estates or their yachts might have more of an impact as these are all they really care about. russian tech is now so good they can keep it personal rather than affecting the whole population.
the russian forces get weapons that work properly. that is why the ukrainian and mercenary casualties are so high. the wonks at nato which represent 32 hapless countries and between them they have only caused minor damage to russian territory. meanwhile back in nato’s ukraine….you know the rest.
