Russia is in talks with Egypt to lease military facilities, including an air base in the town of Sidi Barrani near the Mediterranean, the Russian ‘Izvestia’ daily reported on October 10, quoting a source in the Russian Foreign ministry. If the agreement is made, the military base will be ready for use by 2019, according to the report.
Izvestia said that the facility in Sidi Barrani will be turned into a military air base.
Citing another source that is close to the Russian Defense Ministry, the paper noted that Moscow and Cairo have so far agreed that Russia provides the base with necessary equipment through shipping. Nonetheless, there will be limits for the number of Russian troops that can be deployed there.
The USSR had had a naval base in Sidi Barrani until 1972. It was used to monitor warships belonging to the US Navy.
Now, there are no doubts that Washington’s actions in Syria have pushed Russia to expand its military presence in the Middle Eastern region.

Hang on there. You know, I agree with you about a lot of the things Zionists have done, but they haven’t gotten away with as much as they have by being stupid. Israel had NO reason to use nuclear weapons on Egypt in 1973. The Egyptians were only making any progress as long as they had surprise and they were following their initial, pre-set plan. The moment the IDF counterattack began, the Egyptians switched to being almost wholly passive, aside from a handful of isolated and uncoordinated attacks. Even the initial reckless and unsuccessful armoured counter-attack was enough to pin the Egyptians down. By the time the fighting ended, Sharon was on the outskirts of Cairo. He estimated he would have had control of the city in another 72 hours. The IDF could have quite literally overrun Egypt without resorting to anything nuclear. What stopped them was the Brzezinski deal that made the petro-dollar. The US got the Saudis to agree to price oil in dollars in exchange for the ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal. The Israelis, though not very enthusiastic about that, were running very short on munitions, spares and fuel. The US offered them a huge financial aid package, plus fuel, ammo and weapons. It was the beginning of the massive military aid the US continues to give them. The US also assured them they wouldn’t let anyone threaten Israel that seriously again. You will note that there have been no major nation-state attacks on Israel since, and all the Saudi led Sunni states have been covertly becoming very friendly with Israel, even while they publicly denounced them. The exception was Iraq, and we saw how that went. Anyway, Saudi Arabia and the US bought Egypt’s continued existence as a state, and no nuclear weapons were involved.
