The Kirov Plant Mayak, a part of the Kalashnikov Group, trained Russian troops on the use of an advanced remote control system for the Fagot anti-tank guided missile (ATGM), the Russian defense giant announced on August 14.

In a news release, the group said that representatives from the Kirov Plant Mayak provided comprehensive instruction to operators of the Fagot ATGM belonging to one of the troop units deployed in the special military operation zone in Ukraine.

The training covered the operational principles of the upgraded remote control system, including its mounting procedures and key operational features, according to the release.

Kalashnikov officials said that the remote control kit was issued to the troops for autonomous training and real-world testing across diverse environments, including open fields, wooded areas, and urban settings.

The remote control system enables a single operator to control up to three Fagot launchers sequentially from a safe distance of up to 100 meters to observe the terrain, detect and identify targets, track them, and fire at them, whether they are tanks, other armored vehicles, low-flying helicopters, firing points, bunkers, or enemy personnel.

The Fagot is combat-proven second-generation tube-launched semi-automatic command to line of sight (SACLOS) wire-guided ATGM.

The latest version of the missile, the 9M111M, has a range of 2,500 meters and can penetrate 600 mm of rolled homogeneous armour (RHA).

The Fagot’s launcher can be also used to launch the Konkurs, a heaver SACLOS wire-guided ATGM. The latest version of this missile, the 9M113M, has a range of 4,000 meters and can penetrate 800 mm of RHA behind explosive reactive armor. It is unclear if the remote control kit developed by the Kirov Plant Mayak works with this ATGM.

“The feature and advantage of the remote control lie in its ease of use, low maintenance, and the ability to be quickly repaired even in field conditions. Its main task is to ensure the safety of our warriors,” a representative of the plant said in the news release.

The Kirov Plant Mayak began working on the remote control kit in 2023. In the fall of 2024, it was tested at the training ground. The kits sent to the special military zone were upgraded based on the results of the previous tests.

The performance of the kit in the special military operation zone will be taken into account when launching the product into serial production, according to Kalashnikov.
