On the night of August 27 and throughout the day, Russian Armed Forces conducted a series of coordinated strikes and group attacks against targets across Ukraine. According to statements from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the attacks targeted military-industrial complex facilities, metallurgical and oil refining industries, logistics centers, and port infrastructure. Ukrainian sources reported that the strikes employed Iskander-M ballistic missiles, Oniks anti-ship cruise missiles, and approximately 258 attack drones.
The main nighttime strikes focused on central and southern Ukrainian regions. In Kyiv and Kyiv region, Russian forces hit several major logistics hubs and production facilities. Reports indicate strikes on an unmanned aerial vehicle assembly workshop in the capital, as well as on the San-Park and Oleksandrovsky transportation and logistics centers in Boryspil, which, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, were used for storing and distributing FPV drones, ground control stations, and components for medium- and long-range UAVs.
During the day, additional strikes in Kyiv region targeted an industrial facility in Velyka Oleksandrivka (Ukrodefense Company LLC) producing the Liut reconnaissance-strike ground robotic systems and Khyzhak ground remotely controlled modules, as well as a transportation and logistics center in Brovary (Raven Ukraine) used for storing and distributing UAV components.
In Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region, and Zaporizhzhia, ballistic missiles struck the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhstal metallurgical plants. Ukrainian parliament member Musa Magomedov reported that five missiles hit Zaporizhstal, with the consequences described as extremely severe and the timeline for resuming operations unknown. A similar number of strikes were recorded against Kryvorizhstal. Additionally, during the day, a Geran-4 rocket-powered drone struck the Khortytsia spirits plant in Zaporizhzhia, causing a fire at the facility.
In Kremenchuk, Poltava region, three ballistic missiles struck two interconnected elements of the oil infrastructure supplying fuel to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and involved in transshipment of petroleum products from abroad. The first strike hit the Kremenchuk Oil Refinery of Ukrtatnafta PJSC, and the second struck the Kremenchuk linear production dispatch station of Ukrtransneft JSC.
A large-scale series of strikes was conducted against port infrastructure in Odesa region. Targets included the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk, and Reni. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 24 storage facilities with military equipment were hit in the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk, infrastructure facilities in the port of Reni used for unloading military cargo were struck, and energy and transport facilities supporting port operations were also targeted. In the city of Illichivka, a UAV assembly workshop and a saltpeter production facility supplying the Ukrainian Armed Forces were hit.
Strikes against Odesa region continued throughout the day. Reports indicate that a tanker and two fuel storage tanks for the Ukrainian Armed Forces were hit in the port of Izmail, and seven storage facilities with military equipment and a UAV assembly workshop were struck in the port of Odesa.
In addition to military and industrial targets, warehouses belonging to major Ukrainian retail and logistics companies were also struck. According to Ukrainian media and Forbes reports, warehouses of the Silpo, Comfy, Fora, Avrora, Roshen, Budynok Igrashok, and Berger Cargo Ukraine chains were destroyed or damaged. It was noted that the Fora company had begun using one of the affected warehouses only days earlier — on August 23. In Kharkiv, a drone destroyed the last operating Epicenter hypermarket. In Kalynivka, Kyiv region, a fire broke out at the Epicenter Kalynivka logistics center warehouse, covering an area of approximately 100 square meters.
Ukrainian air defense forces, according to the Air Force Command, were engaged in repelling the attack. Reports indicate the interception of one Oniks missile, seven Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, and 222 strike UAVs.
Concurrently with the strikes on Ukraine, Russian air defense systems were repelling a mass attack by Ukrainian UAVs against Russian territory. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 267 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed overnight over 14 Russian regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Voronezh, and Rostov regions, Krasnodar Krai, and the Republic of Crimea.
In Donetsk, according to the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, a strike using British-French Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles in the area of the Donetsk City shopping mall resulted in eight civilian casualties, including two children, and damage to 8 residential buildings and 11 civil infrastructure facilities. In the Luhansk People’s Republic, a daytime drone attack on a bus traveling from Lysychansk to Stakhanov killed nine people.
Reports indicated the complete destruction by fire of the Wildberries logistics center in Kotovsk, Tambov region. Additionally, UAV attacks targeted Ozon logistics facilities in Orenburg and Ufa, as well as a ferry in the vicinity of the port of Tuapse.
The intense strikes of August 27 demonstrate the mutual determination of both sides to strike critical logistics and industrial infrastructure located deep in the adversary’s rear. Russian forces’ actions were aimed at systematic targeting of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex and energy infrastructure, while the retaliatory Ukrainian UAV attacks focused on warehouse and logistics facilities.
