On the night of August 2, Russian forces launched new wave of strikes on Ukrainian military facilities. The main target was Ukrainian Izmail port located on the Danube River in the Odessa region. At the same time, Russian UAVs struck targets in the Ukrainian capital.
Large explosions thundered in Izmail where the port and oil facilities were destroyed. The following facilities reportedly suffered damage:
- Marine Station;
- Danube Shipping Company ;
- Granary;
- Oil storage.
On August 2, Ukrainian authorities declared that the port suspended its work.
Russian strikes are primarily aimed at disrupting the work of the military facilities in the port on the Danube in order to prevent new attacks on the Black Sea Fleet. The port of Izmail, as well as other facilities on the Danube River, are used by the Ukrainian military for production, storage and launch of both surface and aerial drones in attacks on the Crimea and the ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
In recent days, the Ukrainian military supported by NATO reconnaissance launched several attacks on Russian military ships and civilian vessels in the Black Sea. LINK, LINK Retaliation strikes were not long to wait.

On the other hand, Russian strikes on the Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea coast and on the bank of the Danube River marked the suspension of the grain deal. On July 19, the Russian Defense Ministry warned that “due to the termination of the Black Sea Initiative and the curtailment of the maritime humanitarian corridor, on July 20, 2023, all vessels traveling in the Black Sea to Ukrainian ports will be considered as potential carriers of military cargo.” After the termination of the grain deal, Russia declared the north of the Black Sea a dangerous shipping zone, which is the usual practice during the military conflicts.
Ships of foreign states were banned from coming to Ukrainian ports. However, on July 30, Kiev declared another victory after three civilian cargo ships reportedly entered the Izmail port. The Israeli, Greek and Turkish vessels reportedly “broke through the blockade” and came to Ukrainian under the supervision of four NATO combat aircraft that were patrolling over the Black Sea.
In fact, there was no breakthrough as well as no Kiev’s victories. The Israeli vessel as well as the other watercraft did not get into the mouth of the Danube. As a result of the damage to the port, all merchant ships are helplessly drifting off the coast.

Last night, the Russian Armed Forces also attacked the Kiev region and the city with UAVs. The strikes were likely the response to Kiev’s attempts to struck civilian targets in Moscow. LINK The Ukrainian military only broke several windows in a skyscraper used by the Russian Ministries. In their turn, Russian Geranium UAVs heavily damaged the building which turned out to be one of the most classified departments of the Kiev regime, the Administration of the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine. This department is engaged in the implementation of state policy in technical protection of information, as well as government communications. The Ukrainian authorities confirmed some damage to an administrative building.
