The warring sides in Ukraine continue to exchange strikes in the rear regions. While the Ukrainian military attempts to inflict at least some damage to Russian rear civilian facilities with massive drone strikes across the border, Russian forces respond with precision missile strikes which inflict damage to the Ukrainian military infrastructure.
On the night of July 15, a series of large explosions thundered in the southern Odessa region. Russian forces reportedly launched Iskander-M missiles. Ukrainian air defense failed to repel the attack. According to local reports, there were at least three strikes in the city of Odessa and in the region. A large fire broke out in the area as a result of the attack. The fire was confirmed by the footage. The scale of the damage raised suspicions that the target of the strikes was an ammo depot with NATO missiles and other weapons. Local sources confirmed that Russian reconnaissance UAVs were seen operating over the region after the strikes.
More Russian strikes targeted Ukrainian military facilities in the border region of Kharkiv. The destroyed targets reportedly included the points of deployment of Ukrainian servicemen and military depots in the city of Kharkiv and in other areas not far from the frontlines.
In their turn, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attempted another massive drone attack on the Russian border regions.
According to the official report by the Russian Ministry of Defense, 22 Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed by Russian air defense forces at night. They included, 15 Ukrainian drones destroyed in the Bryansk region, 6 UAVs in Crimea, and another UAV intercepted in the Lipetsk region. Another wave of drone strikes was repelled in the morning. According to the official report by the Ukrainian military, 6 more UAVs were intercepted in the Bryansk, Oryol and Kursk regions. Another Ukrainian UAV was destroyed over the Black Sea near the city of Sevastopol at about midday. The attacks are likely to continue during the day.
Today’s Ukrainian drone strikes result in some damage to the Russian rear infrastructure. In the morning, a fire broke out at an oil depot in the Oryol region. According to the official claims by the local authorities, Ukrainian drone was intercepted by Russian electronic warfare means and fell on the territory of the oil depot located near the village of Malaya Sokhanka. The attack resulted in minor damage to fuel depots. Fortunately, any casualties were avoided.
NATO has so far prohibited the Ukrainian military from launching missile strikes on Russian rear regions (with the exception of the L/DPR, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions and Crimea). In its turn, the helpless Ukrainian military does not have its own means to respond to Russia‘s devastating strikes on its rear infrastructure. The ongoing shelling and drone strikes in Russian border regions cause great damage to the Russian civilian population and civilian infrastructure, rarely causing damage to some oil depots.
