Russia Sends More Pantsir-S Air Defense Systems To Syria - Reports

Pantsir-S systems. IMAGE SOURCE: Ilya Pitalev/RIA

Russia delivered a new batch of Pantsir-S air defense systems to the Syrian port Tartus last week, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported on April 26 citing a military diplomatic source.

Kommersant’s source did not provide details on the destination of the delivered air defense systems. However, according to some Syrian pro-government sources, the systems will be delivered to the Syrian Air Defense Forces (SADF).

The Pantsir-S is a surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery weapon system. It is already in service with the Syrian military. On April 16, the Russian Defense Ministry revealed that the SADF successfully used Pantsir-S systems when it was repelling the April 14 missile strike on the country by the US-led bloc. According to the statement, the Pantsir-S systems fired 25 missiles hitting 23 targets.

On April 25, chief of the Russian General Staff’s main operations directorate Colonel-General Sergei Rudskoy said that Russia is going to supply the Syrian military with more air-defense systems and continue to train Syrian air defense troops. The additional Pantsir-S supplies could be a part of this effort.

During the same press briefing Rudskoy revealed that on April 24 “Russian air defense systems detected and shot down two UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicles] of insurgents at the distance of 10 kilometers from the Khmeimim airbase”. However, according to local sources, the Pantsir-S systems were engaged to destroy some targets at the same time. Probably, they were repelling a reported missile attack on the base.

This was not the first time when the Pantsir-S was involved in repelling attacks on Russian facilities in the war-torn country. In January 2018, Russian air defense systems were applied to defend the airbase and the naval facility in Syria shooting down and jamming 13 UAVs. According to the Russian military, 7 UAVs were destroyed by Pantsir-S systems.

Russia does seem intent on bringing peace to the region. Good for Russia.

RusskiiTroll54

They are supplying defensive equipment to the sovereign state of Syria Arab Republic, i cannot understand how that creates a threat to anyone around? Maybe what you wanna say is that it makes Israhell’s conquest and killing more tricky?!

jerry hamilton

Occupied Palestine will always murder. It’s what they do best. It’s not that long back that they were murdering Christian Russians. Bolshevik / Zionist / Communist. It makes no difference what they call it. It is the same coat. You are however spot on. It will make it more tricky. As indeed it is for their cohort America now.

Don't read butthurt replies

Communist and Zionist the same call? That’s one of the biggest BS I’ve seen posted here. If that was the case Cuba and NK would’ve got along with Israel, but that’s not the case. Funny you didn’t mention Capitalism. Your comment is pure nonsense about Communist being the same coat as Zionist..

jerry hamilton

Ahhh. Ok. Ignorance is not a crime. Do you have the vaguest idea where communism came from? Do you know nothing about the Russian revolution or the second world war? The jews created communism not to be communists. They created it to control communists. https://ia601304.us.archive.org/5/items/ZionismVsBolshevismByWinstonChurchill/Zionism%20vs%20Bolshevism%20by%20Winston%20Churchill.jpg

Ali

Sorry to break it to you but @disqus_PPQmNNomJf:disqus is right. Israel was originally founded by Russian backed Jewish Marxists known as Zionists. Why do you think most Israelis are of Russian origin and what do you think a Kibutz is? It’s a marxist commune and they run most of Israel’s agricultural industry, including in the Golan heights. Israel’s switch to US came later in it’s history. In fact, it is very similar to the Marxist YPG’s current switch from Russian backing to US backing.

Don't read butthurt replies

More nonsense. Rothschild founded and created Zionism. And it continue to get funds from the US now.

Ali

You sound like a Russian troll bot.

Don't read butthurt replies

Whatever I may sound like, you’re a dumb ignorant idiot. Plain and simple. Go back to whatever bullshit site that has brainwashed you. All you did and the other poster was talk out of their ass and that’s a fact. None of what you said , except for one was truth – that there are many Jews Russian in Israel, nothing else. Don’t waste my time and go spread your nonsense somewhere else.

Ali

I take that back. Russian troll bots have better AI.

Patrick Jann

it threatens american and foreskinless forces in bringing democracy to the region ;)

Merijn

It makes IsraHells Future Existence a bit more Tricky…..

russ

Hezbollah is coming soon

jerrydrakejr

And who brings peace to the region? America and Co.? Hardly… Air defense systems are pure defensive, they can not attack anyone with these systems, except attackers on them. If you do not like the fact that they are equipped with these systems, it means that you support those who are disturbed by these systems, they are those who go around the world with their invading armada and destroy and enslave nations. I’m not speaking hypothetically. I am from one of the nation the American attacked and enslaved, setting up a Quisling regime that does not allow my people to get out under American boots.

jerry hamilton

You seem to have totally missed what I wrote.

Barba_Papa

I think everyone did.

jerry hamilton

How? I don’t get it.

Tudor Miron

This is off topic. Sorry that it took me so long to answer your question about Bolsheviks. I’m a slow thinker , sorry. It will take a book to go into any sort of details about Bolsheviks role in the history of this country. Indeed I will very strongly recommend a book called “Dehermetisation” – even if you can only read it using google translator this book will provide one with very wide (both time and geography) picture of what is going on around us.

In very short (oversimplification) – Bolsheviks were foreign funded, mostly Jewish force that tried to reincarnate Khazarian kaganat v2.0 in place of Russian Empire and actually had temporary success. Country level Russian elites destroyed. Russia is non player in global politics. Huge genocide against Russian population led mostly by Jew’s. Interestingly enough – western corporations purchasing huge concessions in Russia (looting started). Than came Stalin – he used same methods as Bolsheviks to wipe off those who opposed him within Russia (it took some years actually) but in the end CCCP emerged – Russia’s sovereignty was largely restored and its role in global affairs reestablished. Khazarian kaganat v2.0 was destroyed by Russia, again.

Funny enough, v3.0 which was flourishing in 90’s Russia was again busted – this time by Putin. Some time I think that zio’s know since Sviatoslav destroyed that parasitic entity (chimera country) Khazarian kaganat and they flee towards eastern and than western Europe. Sviatolsav destroyed their capital – Itil (mysterious story in itself is that remnants of that large urban center were found only recently) Since than zio’s know that Russians are an existential threat to their plans. They would be good to simply stay off but their greed is stronger than their fear. For now they managed to establish khazarian kaganat v3.0 within brotherly Ukraine. Just look at who rule the show there – same old buddies Jews.

jerry hamilton

I am aware that Wall Street heavily funded the revolution. I was unable to find that book but I have books by Victor Serge and Leon Trotsky et al. I haven’t got round to reading them yet as my reading list is extensive. My question was more of What do Russians think of the Bolsheviks? I personally don’t think the world has seen an evil like them and they are still here.

Tudor Miron

In that regard they (Bolsheviks) are not very different than their Khazarian ancestors.

jerry hamilton

Lol. You wouldn’t know that if you went off wiki. This theory still finds occasional support, but most scholars view it with scepticism.

Tudor Miron

I can email you that book if needed but only in Russian.

jerry hamilton

That is very kind of you but my reading list is already too long. Who is the author? Is it different to information from Victor Serge and Leon Trotsky or just different information?

Tudor Miron

Leiba Bronshtein (later known as Leon Trotsky) is a perfect example of a Khazarian thirsty for Russian blood. And he drew a lot. Leiba’s ideas and ambitions about world revolution – west is in debt to Stalin for this one :) “Regermetisation” is very different from those books that you talk about. That’s a result of scientific and analytical work of several individuals and small teams from Russian academic institutions done shortly before collapse of CCCP. The core of that book is actual document (analytical assessment) proposed to the top brass of late Soviet Union. It didn’t help much as we could soon see :) Regermetisation gives overview of global historical process , to me much more important than that creature’s (Leiba Bronshtain) revelations which he wanted us to read.

jerry hamilton

Thank you. Is there anything in English you can recommend even if it is just a web site?

Tudor Miron

Let me see what I can find in English.

russ

He needs to read Alexander zolistnitzkin… Close enough. Those Russian names… How come never just Bob? Russia and the Jews or 200 years together.

You can call me Al

Have a look at FlorianGeyer comment slightly up the thread. I must admit I struggled to get it at first, but it finally clicked, especially in light of Israel gobbing off that they would attack the S-300 system if it was supplied.

RusskiiTroll54

I don’t think so, Russia is not bringing war by prividing SAA with more Air Defence but is making sure that Israhell and party is not gonna bomb SAA, so that kinda brings peace.

jerry hamilton

Which is EXACTLY what I typed. What do you think I typed?

Merijn

I think you are an AmerikanskiiTroll….I have a nose for that…you new in here? Gotcha Bro…

jerry hamilton

да товарищ

jerrydrakejr

Maybe…

jerrydrakejr

Yes… I did, I missed. I read the comment in a negative connotation, now I see that the comment’s point is positive. My mistake.

FlorianGeyer

” Air defense systems are pure defensive ”

They are indeed but the Israeli ‘War’ Minister would disagree with you as Israel/US are only competent when murdering those who cannot fight back.

How dare the Syrians defend their ancient homeland from the Khazar fake jews who have been reviled for circa 750 years :)

Merijn

The Gringos have overplayed their Hand… they are Done… they will Walk Barefoot Soon…

Carlos Fantastic

There can only be one outcome in Syria America needs to back off they can’t possibly be successful

paul ( original )

Yes but they can cause endless trouble, and that in itself is a success.

John Whitehot

a success? for who?

the more they mess around with other countries, the deeper is the grave they are digging for themselves.

jerry hamilton

It’s a success for the filthy rich who own shares in munitions factories. Yes. The grave is becoming bigger.

paul ( original )

Also remember that by having chaos say in Syria then that will weaken them which is probably a success the USA would accept. It is for this reason that I expect the war to drag on for a longtime to come.

jerry hamilton

Usually yes but not this time. Russia have them well and truly beat.

Concrete Mike

Depends how long the zios can keep their mirage up.

FlorianGeyer

The problem is of course that the US administration just keeps digging . Its as if the US expects six million corpses :)

paul ( original )

To be frank I do think chaos does favour the USA. It is not as though there will be no harm to the USA but rather at the end of it the USA will still be the hegemon.

FlorianGeyer

Organised chaos does indeed favour the US Military Industrial Complex but the chaos building a ‘head of steam’ within the USA itself could easily create chaos at home.

No hegemon has ever stood the test of time. When its the turn of the US to collapse is of course debatable but I hope it is soon.

Tudor Miron

Very well said.

Tudor Miron

Paul, would you agree that Trump’s foreign politics looks very err… questionable from the rational point of view? But what if one imagines that Trum’s role is reformating US as we had it for last 100 years (center of concentration of power)? If we look at Trump’s action from that perspective? Often doing things that even long time vassals (EU) are finding increasingly hard to obey.

paul ( original )

All I can do is give you my own interpretation. Does Trump’s policy look rational? To me it looks like the same policy as I have witnessed since my birth in 1950, that is their policy is to dominate everything and get their own way in everything. They do this regardless of whatever one might call rational and indeed might even be to their detriment. The imposition of power is all that matters.

You won’t like this but I don’t believe in any of the sort of explanations that involve all sorts of behind the scenes mechanisms. Rather all I see are shitting little power drunk animals processing neither thought or imagination who inflate themselves by cruelty and domination. Probably not a good answer .

jerry hamilton

On the contrary, that was a perfect answer.

Tudor Miron

Thats a honest answer and that’s what matters. I see things differently and my experience is that there are no uncontrollable processes in the world around. Even if that control is out of our current field of view. Kuzma Prutkov said – “it’s not that our understanding is weak, its just that some things are not included in our undestanding.” Sorry for bad translation.

jerry hamilton

When you look at the about turns that Trump does I can only really think of him as a puppet. I think that America’s foreign policy is decided by the Pentagon who I think are about to be making redundancies. I would imagine that Putin has far more power than Trump has.

Thomas Wolsey

When you create some kind of balance of power it bring peace and stability. When you have rogue nations (US/Israel) bombing everyone without consequences it create chaos and instability.

paul ( original )

You could be right, but so far all I have seen are graves dug for other people. I can only go on what I see and you may see differently. For me although one may hope for some USA collapse I don’t see it happening. This does not mean I know or indeed want to convince anybody. It is simply where my judgement takes me.

What I would say is that the chaos does put a strain on Russian resources and this is definitely to US advantage. But the thing is all we have to do is wait ,if the USA has dug its own grave then it wont need explaining it will be obvious.

Blackfield18

Good. Keep them coming.

John Whitehot

among all the russian weapon systems that have been employed for the first time (operationally) in syria, the pantsir-s seem to rank at the highest places for effectiveness and usefulness.

this system could become a “game changer” (an israeli often used definition) if deployed in sufficient numbers and gave properly trained personnel and support – in the sense that israeli and western air forces will be prevented to influence the outcome of war, an advantage they enjoyed since the end of cold war.

the syrian war could become a sort of template also for future countries being under the threat of aggression from israel or nato.

Denying them air superiority will greatly diminish their ability to force their will on other nations; and will force them to get their hands dirty in full-blown ground wars, if they want to keep their “hard power”, something that western publics aren’t ready to do in the slightest.

jerry hamilton

I agree. I would love them to be given to what’s left of Palestine.

Thomas Wolsey

The problem with pantsir-s1 is it can’t target aircraft flying high altitude. Pantsir-s1 itself does not pose threat to Israeli jets. Pantsir-s1+S300 is a good combination since s300 can target high altitude.

Tudor Miron

So far it turns out that Pantsir s1 integrated with updated s125/200 is doing good enough. Increasing their number as well as supplying S300 will greatly help ending this war.

John Whitehot

it was never designed to engage high altitude targets.

it has its role in an air defence network and my comment was that it performed it efficiently.

the effectiveness of a system is measured against what it was designed to do, not what it was designed not to do.

FlorianGeyer

” an advantage they enjoyed since the end of cold war.”

Well said John. I would also suggest that the airpower of the US in WW2 was also a decisive factor in the obliteration of Japanese and German civilian infrastructure . The next world war will be the first where the massive US war material production capabilities will be at great risk of being seriously degraded.

I would like to think that the many Americans of sane minds could take the reins of power in the US but to do that the messianic support of Israel and the Khazar cult that controls all the organs of state, commerce and power in the US and Europe, would need to be addressed.

A Pogrom is well overdue.

jerry hamilton

To be quite honest, I think America has surpassed any possibility of becoming normal ever again.

FlorianGeyer

Its time for a Pogrom then :) And with all the hysteria in the UK /EU at the moment , in Europe as well. :)

Selbstdenker

If you had been in US and saw the TV program they are subjected to every day you would understand why they are behaving as they are. They get a very biased view of the world, centered around America (US) and the official view of the political establishment. It looks like as TV stations are following a blue print of a Zbigniew Brzeziński book, with a hegemonial view of american superiority over the world and claim to all resources and good belonging to US. Americans I met couldn’t even think off doing anything wrong.

FlorianGeyer

I remember a past Secretary of State Madeline Albright saying a few years ago that ” It is not fair that Russia has so many resources “.

In my opinion all this anti Russian hysteria is because the ONLY way that the US can avert a monetary Armageddon is to plunder Russia and to do that they would need to Balkanise Russia or defeat her militarily.

It might happen in a Hollywood movie but never in reality. Russia was enslaved by the jewish Bolsheviks once and that will never happen again.

jerry hamilton

True I have seen it. It is a more subtle form of indoctrination than you would see in North Korea. They are constantly told how great they are that many of them think they are demigods.

The Simulacra Democracy

Oscar Silva Martinez

I live in Mexico, in a border city with the U.S., we get the TV and radio programming everyday (which I rarely watch and listen lately) and it is so funny how they see the world even the most common american citizen believes they deserve more than any other citizen of the world, it’s amazing how their media launches tones and tones of pure propaganda aiming them to believe so.

Merijn

Herding Sheep will be their future…. the U.S. Lives in their American Dream World… They Owe the World 22 Trillion Dollars or so thanks to their American Express… it is time to start paying back the Money…

Barba_Papa

Pantsir so far has indeed been a game changer. But it also depends on a well integrated air defense network to coordinate it. Same for everything. Be it down from the lowly manpad all the way up to fighter jets. By itself it will probably not accomplish very much. Fortunately for Syria the Russians are supplying that network for them. That is why the Israelis are so pissed off these days. The old Syrian air defense network they could always penetrate. They can’t do the same with the Russian network. So the same SAM’s that proved ineffective in the past are now starting to become deadly. And that’s excluding the potential arrival of the S-300.

But….., few countries have the kind of integrated air defense network that the Russians enjoy. The one that the Americans can’t defeat with their EW systems. So other countries should beware from thinking that the Syrian air defense experience can be applied to them. It takes more then just buying Pantsir and the S-300/400. My advice, don’t just buy the weapons, also get the radars. And make them EW proof.

Jesus

Pantsir was notoriously effective against high profile attacks involving standoff weapons and drones, I am sure other Russian weapons were effective against less publicized attacks against ISIS and other jihadis; if Pantsir worked so good, it gives you a good perspective of how effective the S400 and S300 are.

The days when Israeli aircraft flew over Syria without consequences are over, the added number of Pantsir defenses would make Israeli standoff weapons meaningless and counter cost effective. Neither Israel nor US wants to get involved in a full blown war involving ground troops, since their aversion to casualties and financial drain, as well as loss of credibility of their supposed invincibility.

jerry hamilton

“loss of credibility of their supposed invincibility.”

You nailed it.

Selbstdenker

Looks like as Tor M2 is deployed in Syria as well. With that in addition to Pantsir and S300 it becomes very difficult to attack a protected area.

John Whitehot

“Looks like as Tor M2 is deployed in Syria as well”

Never seen any document proving it.

Normally it should accompany mechanized formations (same role as the older OSA). Since there are no such Russian formations, and Syria does not have the type in inventory I don’t believe it much.

I’m not sure if it’s in service with Russian Naval Infantry, but the nature and composition of those forces in Syria makes me think that they don’t have the type.

plenty of latinos willing to join for a green card. Not good for officer corps though.

the other downside, Latin Kings and Barrio Azteca graffiti appearing at US army bases, which brings a lot of bad strings attached.

gustavo

Good news, and let us thank Russia for its help given to Syria.

cliff

The russian must provide Syria with the S-300,its obvious the U.S. is already providing Ukriane with lethal weapons for offense, the S-300 is strictly for defenses. The Russian must ensure they allies can protect themselves and that is just allies do.

Shahna

Russia sends lls the S-400 all over the world – just not to their ally Syria. For shame Russia.

russ

That was caused by Russia’s diplomacy attempts. We (US) have proved without a doubt this won’t work. Russia now doesn’t need tp appease us. The latest Syria attack showed us for the ZOG nation we are.

russ

We (US) are training Russia to be the best air defense military in the world. Syria has been a military “goldmine” of training for Russia, by no fault of theirs. As impressive as the s3-4-500s are the Pantsir is the ground level part of the system that saves the S systems from wasting expensive missiles and from being saturated by multiple attacks. They can save the s300 missiles just for Israeli planes.

jerry hamilton

Well said.

JustPassingThrough

“On April 25, chief of the Russian General Staff’s main operations directorate Colonel-General Sergei Rudskoy said that Russia is going to supply the Syrian military with more air-defense systems and continue to train Syrian air defense troops. The additional Pantsir-S supplies could be a part of this effort.”

my my, i do hope he has run this by lilliputian lieberman. lol

Joe

Russia needs first to set up these short range missiles first before the S300 long range . I believe Russia is doing this.

Once these are installed , then the S300 can come in as it can be protected better . In short range planes are more easily identified and brought down esp cruise missiles/drones.

Smaug

Well, this was somewhat predictable. Assad wants lots of high tech rockets, the US and allies don’t want the SAA to have rockets thaf can do real damage, Russia gives Assad a decent amount of decent rockets. Nobody want to abset the balance of power.

But on another thought, what kind of drones are they taking down SAM rockets?!?! Because if it’s a recon drone they’re definitely wasting a lot of money because those are a couple hundred dollars on Amazon. And I seriously doubt that a Reaper drone or equivalent could be shot down without some sort of UN hoopla (like how Lebanon and Israel have shown parts of downed drones as evidence they were there).
