On August 22, the Russian military showcased a third unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the last few weeks. Now, it was the Forpost-R reconnaissance UAV. The previous revealed UAVs were the long-range Altius-U UAV and the Okhotnik heavy combat UAV.
The miltiary said that the serial delivery of Forpost-R UAVs to the Russian Armed Forces will begin in 2020. The Forpost-R is a modification of the Forport UAV (a licensed copy of Israel’s IAI Searcher Mk II) that Russia already uses.
“The UAV is made of domestic materials, it has modern radio-electronic equipment, communication lines, a ground-based control complex and software made in Russia. The Forpost-R is also equipped with a modern domestic APD-85 engine,” the press release said.
