The news agency TASS reports (source):
Russia has test-fired weapons from a small interceptor/attack drone, a source in the defense industry told TASS on Monday.
“During the continued flight trials of the Karnivora drone, the use of the ammunition load was tested: the attack weapons and nets for the interception of other drones,” the source said.
As TASS reported earlier, in its attack configuration, the Karnivora will be capable of using, in particular, various high-explosive fragmentation grenades and small-caliber anti-tank air bombs.
As the source added, “after the factory trials are over, there are plans to test the operation of the Karnivora strike drone in combat conditions. The source declined to give the details of the drone’s tests in a combat environment.”
TASS has no official confirmation of this information yet.
The Karnivora small strike drone (from the Latin Carnivora) has been developed by Micran research and production company.
The drone is designed to intercept other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using net guns (the net captures a hostile drone and lands it with a parachute), conduct reconnaissance and also strike ground targets. It can take off from rough sites and hover for 10-15 hours.
The drone has a wing span of 5 meters, a maximum takeoff weight of 40 kg and a flight speed of up to 150 km/h.
The attack drone is capable of operating under electronic counter-measures amid the full loss of satellite navigation signals. The UAV has a large cargo hold (35 liters) and a sliding wing for balance control. The Karnivora is also capable of performing missions in an autonomous mode.
Love the net concepts.
Yep, that sounds rather cool
40kg? I guess they mean 400kg at least.
And those net shots actually sounds cool, getting the enemy drone and technology must be a Intel coup
Yes, only 40kg of load. Prime weapons of this drone will be hand granades…
I thought the article was about the pictured drone, it was not, and i corrected myself.

Oh, hell… they took out the innocent CGI camels. That’s a damn shame.
they saved them from sexual abuse..
Thanks for the vid PT. Good one.
It’s all nice and swell but with 30 years of delay behind the west…
You know Russia have been building drones for thirty and some years now? No doubt that Russia, on some areas, are behind the west, but they are catching up very fast
Yes, it was only recently that Russia decided to use Armed Drones as previously such weapons were deemed to be unethical.
nope. drones were considered as attack weapons and the russian military doctrine is defending the motherland. so thats why they lagged behind. not every crap from the west is desirable to have for russia… but NATO/US idiots do not understand, so RUS had to develop some kind of obvious attack-weapons, see calibr, zirkon, dagger as well as armed drones… so its just to show that any attack against RUS will result in a very bloody nose for the attackers, even in their home countries….
Russia attacking another sovereign nation = unethical Russia defending the motherland = ethical Russia schooling U.S. neocon dimwits that they’re f’king serious = ethical
You and President (E) FlorianGeyer are both correct.
no need to reply to a guy who chose the name of a bomb as nick…
The stats are wrong for the picture of the drone shown. Other sources confirmed its weight to 20 tons and a speed 1000km per hour.
The stats for the article are NOT wrong but the photo! This not at all article on 20 ton haevy drone Okhotnik (on the photo) but the “Karnivora” small strike drone 40kg https://phototass4.cdnvideo.ru/width/744_b12f2926/tass/m2/en/uploads/i/20190128/1213241.jpg
Yes.
wrong foto… this is the Okhotnik, not the Carnivore
“rough sites and hover for 10-15 hours.”
The correct description for a winged drone would be ‘ loiter ‘ NOT ” hover “.
