The advanced Strelets KRUS intelligence, control and communications system provided targets for the Orion combat drone during a recent successful test in Syria, an unnamed source in the Russian military-industrial complex told the RIA Novosti news agency on April 4.
According to the source, Orion combat drones struck terrorist targets which were located with the Strelets system. The source didn’t reveal when exactly the test took place.
“Compared to the use of manned warplanes, a significant increase in the efficiency and accuracy of airstrikes has been demonstrated thanks to the use of Strelets,” the source said.
The Strelets system allow forces on the ground to send target data to warplanes. In previous tests in Syria, the Strelets was used to provide targets for Su-24M fighter bombers. Nearly 100% accuracy was achieved.
Currently, the Strelets system transfers target data to drone operators. If future tests are successful, the system will be able to send targets directly to the drone, according to RIA Novosti’s source.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had revealed that the Strelets system will allow warplanes to hit targets near real-time, only 8-12 minutes after their detection.
The Orion combat drone was successfully tested in Syria before. The Strelets system will further improve efficiency and accuracy of the drone.
