Russia will present an upgraded variant of the Kh-59MK air-launched cruise missile during the MAKS-2021 Air Show which will open its doors on July 20.
Photos of the new variant, dubbed Kh-59MKM, surfaced online on July 19. According to the missile manufacturer, JSC Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV), the variant was designed to destroy fortified, stationary ground targets.
The missile is armed with a 40 kilograms pre-charge consisting of four small shaped charges and a 320 kg penetrating warhead.

The Kh-59MKM was designed to defeat industrial and energy facilities, hydro-dams as well as marine and overland logistic installations. The missile has a range of 285 kilometers with a flight altitude less than 2 km. The missile’s combined navigation and guidance system provides for a circular error probable of 10 meters.
The new variant is the latest addition to the family of the Kh-59 air-launched cruise missiles, which was first developed in the Soviet Union.
The Kh-59MKM will provide Russia and its allies with the ability to destroy fortified, stationary ground targets from a stand-off range. Just like other Kh-59 variants, most warplanes in service today with the Russian Aerospace Forces will be able to fire the new missile.
